If you want to become a fluent English speaker you should take some advice: There are four skills in learning English. They are reading, listening, speaking, and writing. The most important thing you must remember is that if you want to improve your speaking and writing skills you should first master the skills of reading and listening.
Read as much as you can. But your reading must be active. It means that you must think about the meaning of the sentence, the meaning of the unfamiliar words, etc. There is no need for you to pay much attention to grammars or try to understand all the unfamiliar words you come across, but the fact that you see them for the first time and recognize them whenever you see them, for example, in other passages or books, is enough. It would be better to prepare yourself a notebook so you can write down the important words or sentences in it.
As for listening, there are two choices: besides reading, you can listen every day for about 30 minutes. You can only pay attention to your reading and become skillful at your reading, then you can catch up on your listening. Since you have lots of inputs in your mind, you can easily guess what the speaker is going to say. This never means that you should not practice listening.
For listening you can listen to cartoons or some movies that are specially made for children. Their languages are easy. Or if you are good at listening you can listen to VOA or BBC programs every day. Again the thing to remember is being active in listening and preferably taking some notes.
If you follow these pieces of advice, your speaking and writing will improve automatically, and you can be sure that with a title effort they will become perfect.
51.According to the author, which should you improve first among the four skills?
A.Reading and listening.
B. Reading and writing.
C.Writing and speaking.
D.Speaking and listening.
52.The underlined phrase “come across” in Paragraph 2 can probably be replaced by “________”.
A.meet by accident
B.discover
C.find on purpose
D.look for
53.The author seems to agree with the view that ________.
A.everyone should listen to VOA or BBC programs every day
B.you needn't practice listening if you keep on reading every day
C.being good at reading is helpful in improving your listening
D.you should take notes of whatever you are hearing
54.The passage is mainly about how to ________.
A.choose suitable listening materials
B.deal with new words in reading
C.improve your English as quickly as possible
D.become fluent in speaking and writing English

One summer my friend and I decided to go to Italy for a holiday and we decided to travel there without going through a travel agency. You know, you would be submerged ( 淹没 ) in crowds of tourists and lose lots of opportunities to get familiar with the country more closely. We started to think over our trip and managed to come up with a free tour of Italy.
The trip was not very long but it was still very impress. We look forward to going there again! Of course, we spent lots of time arranging the trip, but it was well worth it! Of course I was afraid that something would go wrong and I was especially anxious about my visa, but everything went quite smoothly in the end.
The most difficult part was getting a visa without an invitation. In the Italian consulate ( 领事馆 ), one must hand in some official paper proving that one has a hotel booked for oneself in order to get the visa. Then we had to solve the ticket problem. Airlines often sell cheap tickets and we bought ours far in advance. The next step was to book a hotel. We finally booked a hotel about thirty km away from the heart of Rome and it was the perfect choice for our trip.
Every day we took a train that carried us to the heart of Rome. Our big house, which was surrounded by the forest, was a rare girl for the fresh air and absolute silence, beautiful views, hospitable ( 好客的 ) hosts, comfortable living conditions delighted us to no end. Besides this, we were very lucky that our mistress was Russian. She gave us what transport to choose and where the best places to go.
Don’t be afraid to arrange your trip by yourself. It’s not difficult! The only thing I’ll say right now is that we really enjoyed travelling by ourselves. We walked with a map and a guide-book to wherever we wanted and we even met some of our fellow countrymen on the way just two or three times. So, if you’re also planning a “single” trip, don’t forget to take a Russian-Italian phrasebook as people in Italy prefer to speak in their native tongue.
55.Why does the author want to go to Italy again?
A. He didn’t stay in Italy long enough.
B. Italy has a lot of attractions.
C. His friend invited him there.
D. He had a great time there.
56.What does the author think was the hardest in preparing for his Italian trip?
A. Buying cheap airline tickets to Italy before the traveling
B. Getting a visa without an invitation from the Italian consulate.
C. Booking a comfortable hotel on his own in Rome.
D. Solving the ticket problem far in advance.
57.In the four paragraph the author mainly explains___.
A. the reason why he chose to live in the center of Rome
B. what transport they chose to travel in their Italian trip
C. the reason why the hotel he booked was the right choice
D. the reason why the mistress gave them some advice
58.From the text we can know the author____.
A. enjoys traveling everywhere in the world
B. advises us to arrange trips by ourselves
C. likes being accompanied by tour guides
D. met with a lot of countrymen in Italy

The opera house in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is one of the most beautiful in the United states. It is small and open, with one roof over the stage where singers perform and another roof over part of the audience. This opera house in the mountain is one of the best in the country, which may seem surprising because performances are only given during the seven weeks in summer, and because Santa Fe is a very small city.
One reason why the Santa Fe Opera is so good is that it attracts many excellent young singers. They all hope to sing in famous opera houses like Metropolitan in New York someday, and they work hard to become well-known during the summer. The musicians and directors are experts who come from the best orchestras(管弦乐队) and operas in the country during their vacations. They enjoy working there because they like to live in Santa Fe, which is near both the mountains and the desert. It is very beautiful there in summer.
The state government of New Mexico advertises the Santa Fe Opera in newspapers all over the country, and a great many tourists come to New Mexico because of the opera. Still, most of the audience does come from Santa Fe and other nearby cities, and all the seats in the theater are sold for every show.
There is only one thing that some people do not like about the Santa Fe Opera, and that is the cold weather. Because the theater is open, performances cannot start before it gets dark at nine o’clock in the evening, and then the mountain air becomes very cool. Sometimes people complain about the cold air, but because the operas are good, these people come back again wearing warm coats.
59. This passage mainly introduces _______.
A. a mountain city
B. young musicians
C. an opera house
D. the tourism in Santa Fe
60. Young singers come to perform in Santa Fe Opera because _______.
A. the music quality is high
B. they enjoy the climate there
C. they want to be famous
D. they like the scenery there
61. It seems surprising that Santa Fe becomes famous because _______.
A. it is only a very small place
B. it is between the mountain and desert
C. all the seats are sold for every show
D. musicians there are from the best orchestras
62. From the passage, we can learn that _______.
A. the opera house is open without any roofs
B. musicians always spend vacations in Santa Fe
C. the government advertises to attract more musicians
D. performances are held in Santa Fe only after it is dark
D
In 1901,H. G. Wells, an English writer, wrote a book describing a trip to the moon. When the explorers landed on the moon, they discovered that the moon was full of underground cities. They expressed their surprise to the “moon people” they met. In turn, the “moon people” expressed their surprise. “Why,” they asked, “are you traveling to outer space when you don’t even use your inner space?”
H.G. Wells could only imagine travel to the moon. In 1969, human beings really did land on the moon. People today know that there are no underground cities on the moon. However, the question that the “moon people” asked is still an interesting one. A growing number of scientists are seriously thinking about it.
Underground systems are already in place. Many cities have underground car parks. In some cities, such as Tokyo, Seoul and Montreal, there are large underground shopping areas. The “Channel”,a tunnel connecting England and France, is now complete.
But what about underground cities? Japan’s Taisei Corporation is designing a network of underground systems, called “Alice Cities”.The designers imagine using surface space for public parks and using underground space for flats, offices, shopping, and so on. A solar dome would cover the whole city.
Supporters of underground development say that building down rather than building up is a good way to use the earth’s space. The space, they say, can be used for farms, parks, gardens, and wilderness. H.G. Wells “moon people” would agree. Would you?
63.The explorers in H.G. Well’s story were surprised to find that the “moon people”
.
A.knew so much about the earth B.understood their language
C.lived in so many underground cities D.were ahead of them in space technology

65.What sort of underground system are already here with us?
A.Offices, shopping areas, power stations
B.Tunnels, car parks, shopping areas
C.Gardens, car parks, power stations
D.Tunnels, gardens, offices
66.What would be the best title for the text?
A.Alice Cities—cities of the future B.Space travel with H.G. Wells
