My Fellow Americans,
I have recently been told that I am one of the millions of Americans who will suffer from Alzheimer’s Disease (老年痴呆症). Upon learning this news, Nancy & I had to decide whether as private(私人的) citizens we would
36
this a private matter or we would make this news known in a
37
way.
In the past Nancy suffered from breast cancer 38
I had my cancer surgeries (外科手术). We found that after we told it to the public, we were able to 39
public awareness(意识). We were happy that
40
many more people went to have a test. They were treated in early stages and able to
41

So now, we feel it is

to share it with you. In opening our hearts, we hope this might improve greater
43
of this condition. Perhaps it will encourage a clearer understanding of the individuals(个人) and families who are
44
by it.
At the moment I feel just fine. I’d
45
to live the remainder of the years God gives me on this earth doing the things I have
46
done. I will continue to share
47
journey with my beloved Nancy and my family. I plan to enjoy the great outdoors and stay in touch 48
my friends and supporters.
Unfortunately, as Alzheimer’s Disease
49
, the family often suffers a lot. I only wish there was some way I could spare Nancy from this
50
experience. When the time comes I am confident that with your help she will
51
it with faith and courage.
At last, let me thank you, the American people for giving me the great honor of
52
me to serve as your President. When the Lord calls me home,
53
that may be, I will leave with the greatest love for this country of ours and endless optimism(乐观)for its future.
I now begin this
54
that will lead me into the sunset of my life. I know that for America there will always be a bright
55
ahead.
Thank you my friends. May God always bless you.
Sincerely,
Ronald Reagan[学

There was a wonder-filled little girl who was hurt so badly that when she entered adult life, she thought she was so bad that others just couldn’t be nice to her.
But she had a lot of curiosity, which kept her going. She sought many wise people to help her understand why she was so bad that her mother hurt her and why she was unable to be better so that men wouldn’t hurt her.
She was on a journey that she thought was to help her be “better”. She carried a big bag with her everywhere she went. Inside it were all the hurts she had experienced. Because she was so eager to please those who offered their wisdom, she willingly agreed with what they said about forgiving. But she held that bag of hurts tightly(紧紧地).
After 50 years of carrying that bag around and showing it to all she met as if it were proof that she was a good person, she decided to open it up and just see what happened.
When she looked inside it was filled with bits of paper. At one time they had words on them, detailing the hurts. But time had faded (使褪色) the words and all that was left was some useless paper. She had been struggling to carry this bag that held nothing but the image(形象)of something that once was.
She saw the absurdity(荒谬) of carrying that bag around. It made her laugh. By letting go of the paper and having pity for those that hurt her, this little girl was able to become a woman with beautiful hair. The woman looked in the mirror and said, “I am lovable.”

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know.
I stood up to look around, when a gentle hand touched my shoulder.
I turned around to find wrinkled, little old lady with a warm smile. She said, "Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old.”
"Why are you in college at such a young age?" I asked.
She replied, "I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, have a couple of kids and then retire(退休) and travel..."
I knew she was joking. I was curious what might have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.
"I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!" she told me.
We became friends. Every day we would talk nonstop after class. I was always interested in listening to this "time machine" as she shared her wisdom and experience with me. And Rose easily made friends wherever she went.
At the end of the term we invited Rose to make a little speech. She cleared her throat and began, "We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. I’ve learned a few secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die.”
“There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding the opportunity in change.
“Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do……"

Health experts are calling for action to increase cancer care and control in the developing world. A medical research paper says cancer was once thought of as a problem mostly in the developed world. But now cancer is a leading cause of death and disability in poor countries as well. Experts from Harvard University and other organizations urge the international community(社区)to fight cancer actively, saying it should be fought in the way HIV/AIDS has been fought in Africa.
Cancer kills more than 7.5 million people a year worldwide. Almost two-thirds are in low-income(收入) and middle-income countries.
They discover cancer kills more people in developing countries than AIDS, tuberculosis (肺结核) and malaria (疟疾) combined. But the world spends only 5% of its cancer resources in those countries.
Felicia Knaul from Harvard Medical School was one of the writers of the paper. She was in Mexico when she was found to have breast cancer. She received treatment there and her experience showed her the sharp difference between the rich and the poor in treating breast cancer.
Felicia Knaul says, “And we are seeing how this is attacking young women. It’s the number two cause of death in Mexico for women thirty to fifty-four. All over the developing world, it’s the number one cancer-related death among young women. I think we have to again say that there is much more we could do about it than we are doing about it.”
Professor Knalul met community health workers during her work in developing countries. They were an important part of efforts to reduce deaths from the cancer. They were able to persuade people to get tested to prevent the illness. The experts say cancer care does not have to be costly. For example, patients can be treated with lower-cost drugs.
71. What would be the best title for the passage?

.
A. breast cancer is a great threat to young women
B. people don’t pay enough attention to breast cancer
C. breast cancer is the second killer among women in Mexico
D. patients can be treated effectively in developing countries
74. Who plays an important part in preventing the cancer in developing countries?

[1] Teenagers who spend hours in front of the television may have a poorer diet, a new study shows. It is not clear, researchers say, whether television itself is the reason, but it is possible that things like snacking in front of the TV or seeing ads for junk food influence young people’s diets.
[2] The study included nearly 1,400 high school students. It showed that those who watched TV for five hours or more every day had less healthy diets than other students five years later. As a group, they ate fewer fruits and vegetables, but ate more fast food, snack products and fried foods.
[3] “We’re not able to tell why,” lead researcher Dr. Daheia J. Barr-Anderson said. “But we have some speculations(推测).” People who spend a lot of time in front of the TV, especially teenagers, may have more snack. It may influence their long-term diet quality. It’s also possible that TV ads for fast food, sweets and snacks make teenagers eat more of those foods. TV time might also replace exercise time for some kids.
[4] The researchers found a clear relationship between TV time during high school and diet quality of the young. The heaviest TV viewers
____
five years later, and those who’d watched fewer than two hours every day had the most fruits and vegetables.
[5] According to Barr-Anderson, the findings support experts’ advice that children should watch no more than two hours of television every day. “Parents should cut the TV time.” Barr-Anderson said. She advised that parents set a good example by eating right, being physically active and controlling their own TV time.
