It’s Pigs’ Hometown
The story happened during the Second World War. An old man lived in a small town of Germany. He had three sons and they all worked in the same factory where he had worked. After the war had begun, his sons were all made to join the army one after another and they all died in the fights. The old man was very sad. He didn’t have enough food and was often hungry. And nobody helped him and he didn’t know how to go on living.
It was a very cold winter night. The old man couldn’t go to sleep. He had been hungry for two days and it was so cold in his room that ice could be seen. He had to get up and began to run in the room until he lay down on the floor. The next morning he had to beg from door to door. He had been to a lot of cities and knew a lot.
Once he came to a village, but the villagers were all poor and couldn’t give him anything. He was too hungry to go to another village. He thought hard and found a way. He came to a police station and called out, “Hitler is a foolish pig!”
Out came an old policeman at once. He took the old man into a room, gave him some bread and a cup of tea. Then he said, “Don’t say so in our village, sir!”
“I’m sorry, sir,” said the old man. “I don’t know it’s Hitler’s home town.” “No, no, sir,” the policeman said in a hurry. “It’s pigs’ hometown!”

As the mobile phones so widely appear in our daily life, someone said it would be cool if you didn’t have a mobile phone nowadays. It might be true to some extent, but as for an adult, a mobile means contact. It connects your work, relatives, friends, etc. It should do great deeds for us.
Months ago, my uncle gave his dear son a phone, because my nephew’s school is far from his home. He can only come back once a term, and the phones haven’t been so expensive yet. However, someone has criticized the young people for playing on mobiles, but not using. They are fond of sending messages, taking pictures and so on. They buy expensive, high level and fashion types for showing. They play on the mobiles day in and day out ….. Holy cow!
So, what happens to youngsters around you? Do they have a phone? What do they use it for? Do you think it’s necessary for teenagers who are still in school to have a phone?
POSTER 1:
In my view, mobile phones are only a tool for communication purpose, just like any other tools which have the potential (潜力) to be abused and misused. Personally, I can see young people using it for security reason, emergency purpose, etc. If the parents can afford to pay big phone bills for their kids, well, that’s their business, like the old saying goes, “live and let live.”
--- Mary Smith
POSTER 2:
From psychological (心理学的) point of view, teenagers are more likely to be relaxed or pleasure-oriented. They would like to make something different. Purchasing brands that are considered “COOL” is important to them. They want others to like and admire themselves, and sometimes, even exaggerate(夸大)their own personality to show off. This can be seen as a kind of psychology during this certain range of age.
--- Dick Gates
Currently, people should tend to be more sociable, and age should not be seen as a barrier for teenagers to own their phones. They also need to set trends on the social circuit (社交圈). But here parents should play an important role in controlling their children about how to use the phones more properly.
59. We can learn from the first sentence of the passage that ________.
A. people admire those who don’t have mobile phones
B. people don’t like to have mobile phones nowadays
C. mobile phones are too popular among people now
D. mobile phones are not as useful as before
60. Why are some teenagers criticized according to the second paragraph?
A. They use mobile phones for playing instead of using.
B. They don’t use mobile phones for their study.
C. They play “Holy Cow” games in mobile phones.
D. They buy expensive, fashionable mobile phones.
61. By saying “live and let live”, Mary Smith means that _________.
A. teenagers shouldn’t use mobile phones
B. parents should buy mobile phones for their children
C. teenagers can use mobile phones if their parents don’t mind
D. teenagers should use mobile phones for communication
62. What is Dick Gates’ attitude towards whether teenagers should use mobile phones?
A. Supportive.
B. Objective.
C. Negative.
D. Uninterested.
C
There are hundreds of national parks and wildlife areas in Africa that you can travel to. Here are the top four travel destinations in Africa:

Some people make you feel comfortable when they are around. You spend an hour with them and feel as if you have known them half your life. These people have something in common. And once we know what it is, we can try to do it ourselves.
How is it done? Here are several skills that good talkers have. If you follow the skills, they'll help you put people at their ease, and make friends with them quickly. First of all, good talkers ask questions. Almost anyone, no matter how shy he is, will answer a question. One well-known businesswoman says, "At business lunches, I always ask people what they did that morning. It's a common question, but it will get things going." From there you can move on to other matters-sometimes to really personal questions. And how he answers will let you know how far you can go. Second, once good talkers have asked questions, they listen to the answers. This point seems clear, but it isn't. Your questions should have a point and help to tell what sort of person you are talking to. And to find out, you really have to listen carefully and attentively. Real listening at least means some things. First it means not to change the subject of conversation. If someone sticks to one topic, you can take it as a fact that he's really interested in it. Real listening also means not just listening to words, but to tones of voice. If the voice sounds dull, then, it's time for you to change the subject. Finally, good talkers know well how to deal with the occasion of parting. If you're saying good-bye, you may give him a firm handshake and say, "I've really enjoyed meeting you." If you want to see that person again, don't keep it a secret. Let people know what you feel, and they may walk away feeling as if they've known you half their life
67. Asking questions might be a quite good and suitable way _______.
A. for you to make more and more new friends
B. to begin your business talks C. to get the conversation going smoothly
D. for you to make a deep and lasting impression on others
68. After having asked somebody a question, it'll be polite of you to _______.
A. make clear what kind of person he is
B. listen to his reply attentively
C. wait quietly and patiently for his answer
D. go on asking him more questions
69. Generally speaking, good talkers are persons who _______.
A. are good at making any topic interesting
B. never talk too much or too little C. always speak in a gentle way
D. know how and when they should change the topic of the talk
70. If you really take delight in meeting someone again, _______.
A. you may take him as your lifelong trustworthy friend B. it seems necessary for you to let him know it C. it's proper for you to give him a second handshake D. it'll be helpful for you to have further understanding of him

Many parents know how frustrating(令人沮丧的) it can be to have a kid who is a picky eater. ___71___ A kid should never be forced to eat a specific food. As long as growth and weight gain are normal, there’s usually no reason to worry about a fussy(难以取悦的) kid. If you have problems with feeding kids, try the following tips.
●Never force-feed your kid.
If your little one turns his head from the spoon, he’s telling you clearly he’s had enough.
● Make a few simple healthy dishes.
___72___ Just say “Oh well, maybe you’ll like them next time.” Keep trying gently. Some kids may need to try a food eight, ten, even fifteen times before they enjoy it. Therefore, be patient.
●___73___
Most kids have food preferences. Some enjoy wet foods, others may prefer finger foods. Some may want to try mini-meals, while others may favor liquids over solids for a time.
●Be a good role model by reducing distractions(分心).
___74___ Turn off the TV, remove toys and books, and help your little one focus on one thing: eating.
●Keep meals enjoyable.
Don’t turn eating into an issue or be too strict about table manners. Let your kid touch and enjoy his food. ___75___ Your kid is the same. Although your picky eater is likely to make a mess waving around the mealtime spoon, letting him take control is important to a child’s growth and development.
On the whole, it’s your job to feed your kid, but it’s your kid’s responsibility to decide what and how much to eat.
Allow kids to choose one or two items they like on the menu.
Realize that you want your kid to eat for his own well-being, not to please you.
If your kid refuses to try them, don’t make a new meal.
You probably wouldn’t eat a food you’ve never seen before without first looking it over.
There are plenty of vegetarian dishes to choose from.
But don’t let dinnertime turn into a battle over what your kid should eat.
Make food the focus of mealtime.
