“Well, I'll give you the chances,”said Einstein, “they don't know me at the next school. So when we get there, I'll put on your cap and you introduce yourself as me and give the lecture.”
The driver gave Einstein's lecture so wonderfully that he didn't make any mistakes.
When he finished, he started to leave, but one of the professors stopped him and asked him a question which was very difficult. Rush hour traffic is a problem in many big cities around the world. Commuters(道勤者)rush to and from their jobs in cars, bues, subways, trains, and even on bicycles. Large cities in the United States have two rush hours—one in the morning and one in the evening. But in cities in other parts of the world, there are four rush hours. In Athens and Rome, for example, many workers go home for lunch and a nap. After this midday break, they rush back to their jobs and work for a few more hours.
In Tokyo, there's a big rush hour underground. Most of the people in Tokyo take the subways. The trains are very crowded. Subway employees called packers wear white gloves and help pack the commuters into the trains when the doors close. They make sure that all purses, briefcases, clothes, and hands are inside the trains.
In Seoul, many commputers prefer to take taxis to get to work. To hail_a_cab,_many people stand at crossroads and riase two fingers. This means they'll pay the cab driver double the usual fare. Some people even raise three fingers! They'll pay THREE times the normal rate.
Streets in Rome are very crowded with automobiles and mopeds(摩托自行车)during rush hours. The city can't make its streets wider, and it can't build new highways, because it doesn't want to disturb many historic sites in the city, such as the Forum and the Colosseum. It took the city fifteen years to construct a new subway system. Construction had to stop every time workers found old artifacts and discovered places of interest to archaeologists(考古学家).
In many big cities, there are special lanes on highways for carpools. These are groups of three or more people who drive to and from work together. They share the costs of gas and parking and take turns driving into the city.
Getting to work and getting home can be difficult in many places around the world. Rush hour traffic seems to be a universal problem.

Several months ago, CCTV broadcast a documentary(记录片)film about criminals(罪犯). I remembered one criminal clearly: he had killed his girlfriend just because she wanted to leave him. The journalist asked him, “Do you regret killing your girlfriend?”
“No.”
“Why?”
“It's useless to regret,”the man answered calmly.
The journalist was silent. At that moment, I felt very angry. This man had made such an unforgivable mistake but he still wouldn't say he was sorry.
Is regret really useless?
Of course, regret is an emotion linked to the past and this feeling cannot turn back the clock. But I think people who say regret is useless ignore(忽视)two points. One is that regret is useful for the future and to one's soul. Look up the word“regret”in a dictionary: there are many expressions, such as“repent(悔悟)”,
“chagrin(悔恨)”and so on. All these are used to tell people not to make similar mistakes after they have realized their fault. If you don't regret, how can you repent? On the other hand, for those such as murderes, who have already lost their future, regret is still a baptism(洗礼)for the soul. A murderer won't leave the world at peace with himself unless he understands what regret is.
I have no doubt that regret is a virtue. Just like a light in the darkness, it can offer people the ray of hope they need. No matter what you have done wrong, people will always respect you for showing regret and a willingness to correct your mistakes. In this way, regret is a special feeling. Correcting mistakes is better than complaining; it makes you feel good about yourself. So why not show some regret after doing something wrong?

Believe it or not, optical illusion(错觉)can cut highway crashes.
Japan is a case in point. It has reduced automobile crashes on some roads by nearly 75% using a simple optical illusion. Bent stripes, called chevrons(人字形), painted on the roads make drivers think that they are driving faster than they really are, and thus drivers slow down.
Now the American Automobile Association Foundation for Traffic Safety in Washington D.C.is planning to repeat Japan's success. Starting next year, the Foundation will paint chevrons and other patterns of stripes on selected roads around the country to test how well the patterns reduce highway crashes.
Excessive speed plays a major role in as much as one fifth of all fatal traffic accidents, according to the Foundation. To help reduce those accidents, the Foundation will conduct its tests in areas where speedrelated hazards(危险)are the greatest—curves, exit slopes, traffic circles, and bridges.
Some studies suggest that straight, horizontal bars painted across roads can at first cut the average speed of drivers in half. However, traffic often returns to full speed within months as drivers become used
to seeing the painted bar.
Chevrons, scientists say, not only give drivers the impression that they are driving faster than they really are but also make a lane appear to be narrower. The result is a longer lasting reduction in highway speed and the number of traffic accidents.

As the train went close to the seaside town where I was going to spend my holiday,I went into the corridor to breathe in the fresh sea air.I exchanged a few words with one of the passengers, whom I had met earlier on the station platform.
When I turned to go back to my seat,I happened to look into the compartment next to mine.Sitting there was a man who many years before had been my neighbor, who was a great talker;it used to take hours to get away from him once he began a conversation.I was not at all sorry when he went to live in another part of London. We had not met since then, nor did I wish to meet him now, when my holiday was about to begin.
Luckily at that moment he was much too busy talking to the man opposite him to catch sight of me.I slipped back into my compartment and moved to the far end of the corridor so as to be ready to get off the train as soon as it stopped. The moment the train came to a stop,I called a porter, who immediately carried my luggage out of the station and found me a taxi.As I was driven towards my small hotel,I breathed a deep sigh of relief at my narrow escape. There was little chance that I should run into my boring exneighbor again.
When I reached the hotel,I went straight to my room and rested there until it was time for dinner. Then I went down to the dining room and ordered a drink.I had hardly raised the glass to my lips when an all too familiar voice greeted me.I had not escaped from the tiresome neighbor after all!He grasped me warmly by the hand and insisted that we share a table.“This is a pleasant surprise,”he said,“I never expected to see you again after all these years.”

Your_letter_reached_me_yesterday.It_is_said_in_your_letter_that_you_were_punished_for_using_a_cellphone.I'm_sorry_to_hear_that.
There is no doubt that it's convenient for you to get in touch with your parents and you can find your friends easily.Besides, chatting through QQ is a popular way to communicate with others nowadays.
However, there are more problems with cellphones. Some students send messages or play games in class,so they can't concentrate on their study. Some students use cellphones at night, which makes them tired and sleepy. What's worse, some even want to use cellphones to cheat in the exam. They spend so much time and effort on cellphones that they get bad results in study.
In my opinion, you should know the bad effects of using a cellphone in the school. It is right for school to prevent you from using cellphones at school.

My
Special Gift for Grandma
During_the_winter_vacationI_spent_my_lucky_money_on_a_special_gift_for_Grandma.One Friday afternoon,I went to a cell phone store and chose a large button phone specially designed for seniors.I gave it to Grandma when I came to visit her at the weekend.Upon receiving the phone,Grandma was very happy and eager to learn how to use it.I patiently explained all the important functions she needed.Grandma learned carefully and wanted to have a try. With my help, she successfully called her friends. That afternoon Grandma proudly told the neighbors that she could make calls with the new phone I
bought her.They
all praised how thoughtful I was.
