Sound like a scary horror movie? Believe it or not, this scene takes place every night, all summer long, at Bracken Cave in Texas, where 20 million bats fly outside to feed on insects. “It is magical,” says Jim Kennedy of Bat Conservation International in Austin Texas. “It is one of the most majestic animal movements on the planet.”

Every March or April, Mexican freetailed bats migrate up to 1,000 miles (1,609 kilometers) from their winter home in Mexico to this cave, where they raise their young. Soon after they arrive, each mother gives birth to one pup. As many as 500 baby bats live crammed into one square foot (30.48 cubic centimeters) of space, all those bodies create nice warm temperatures to keep them cozy and comfortable. If you've ever lost sight of your parents on a crowded playground, you may be wondering how mother bats recognize their children. They use their sense of smell to tell which pup is theirs when it is time for the babies to nurse.

The cave, a quiet place in winter, is full with life all summer—and not just with bat residents. Bat waste soon covers the floor, providing food for tiny organisms(生物体) like bacteria and fungi(真菌). And then there are the bugs.they are helping humans. They eat tons of insects in a single night, including many pests that eat farmers' crops. And they get rid of mosquitoes, too.

Some other musicians are also playing the traditional instruments from various ethnic groups in China.

It's the first time such music has ever been performed in the Grand Theater. But all this is the efforts of Zhu Zheqin, a Cantoneseborn singer, who has made it her mission to help preserve China's traditional ethnic music.

In 2009, after being appointed a United Nations Development Program ambassador, Zhu traveled through some of China's remotest regions in an attempt to document the traditional music of various minority groups. In the course of the fourmonth trip, she recorded more than a thousand songs. But she noticed that many of the best musicians were old, and some of the music was at risk of dying out.

揑 was shocked by the beauty o f what I heard—it was so good,” she says. “But it needed support. I hope to let people see the beauty of these things in the contemporary times.”o Zhu decided to introduce some of the musicians to a wider audience. By doing this, she hopes to rekindle(点燃) the interest of the younger generation. “Young people don't like this music much; they prefer pop music and love songs. They think these songs are something their grandma sings. This kind of repackaging gives young people a new door into their heritage.”

Zhu believes China needs to look again at its own roots. 揅hina today is basically all Western art; ein our conservatories (音乐学院) Western classical music is the top,” she says. “For China to really contribute to the world, we need to go on our own path. So what can represent China today?” The answer, she suggests, is to move from “made in China” to “created in China”.paragraph, we learn that________.

第三部分 任务型阅读picking up a nap habit—or continuing to make time for one—is a smart, healthy move. Consider the evidence: The Mayo Clinic says naps promote relaxation, reduce tiredness, better mood and recover alertness (机敏). A 2010 British study found that compared to getting more nighttime sleep or drinking more coffee, a midday nap was the best way to cope with the midafternoon slump (萎靡).unbelievably, a 2007 study of nearly 24,000 Greek adults in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that people who napped regularly had a 37 percent reduced risk of dying from heart disease compared to people who didn't nap. follow these tips.

How long to sleep: Naps provide different benefits depending on how long they are, says MentalFloss.com. A 20minute nap will promote alertness and concentration; a 90minute nap which includes deeper stages of sleep, can strengthen creativity. The danger zone is when you're somewhere in between, because waking up in the middle of a sleep cycle can lead to sleep inertia(惯性). So stick to 20 or 90 minutes for maximum benefits. If you wake up from a nap feeling confused or more tired, it's likely that your timing was just off.

What time to sleep: Prevention.com says that you experience a natural dip in body temperature (the same kind that makes you feel sleepy at night) between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. A power nap at this time can promote alertness for several hours and, for most people, won't affect being able to fall asleep at night.

How to get comfortable: MentalFloss.com says it takes about 50 percent longer to fall asleep sitting up than lying down. (That's why we sleep so poorly on planes and trains!) Pick a dark, cozy place that's not too warm or too chilly. Prevention.com recommends napping on the couch instead of in bed, so you won't snooze for too long.

Surprisingly, the best place to sleep may be a hammock (吊床) if you have one. A Swiss study published last year found that people fell asleep faster and had deeper sleep when they napped in a hammock than in a bed. That same rocking motion that causes babies to sleep works wonders for grownups, too.: It sounds strange, but drinking coffee right before a nap may be the perfect aid for maximum alertness. Since caffeine takes 20 to 30 minutes to take full effect, you'll feel even more alert after your 20minute nap.Title:How to Take a Nap

第一部分第一节 考and+一般将来时(will do)”。 may not“可能不”,can“能”表示一种能力。 to be done不定式表示将来,more things与后面的动词do是被动的关系,故选A 考查定语从句和强调句型。 somehow“由于某种原因”; somewhat“有点; 稍微”。 suggest可构成suggest one's doing, suggest that…或It is suggested that…,不可构成suggest sb. to do sth.; hope可构成hope to do sth., hope that…或It's hoped that…,不可构成hope sb. to do sth. expect sb to do sth “希望…… should也可用ought to,“should have done”表示本应该做某事却没做。 make sb do sth; get sb to do sth “让某人做某事”; force sb to do sth“强迫某人做某事”; persuade sb to do sth “说服某人做某事”。故选B项。 从文章最后一段的it made my whole Thanksgiving… 从下文的we had enough frequent flier miles and could upgrade our tickets看出前面是原因。 We were sitting in the very first two seats in the first row of first class可知应该是头等舱。故用first。 I sat in a middle seat part way back and my…sat in the window seat in the last row of the plane. 从本句中的there was a couple sitting in the…of the plane who had just got married the previous day可知,他们在度蜜月。 从本句的后半部分due to some schedule changes, they had not been able to get…together. I sat in a middle seat part way back and my…sat in the window seat in the last row of the plane可知他们的座位没有在一起。 I overheard one of the flight attendants telling the others… I called the flight attendant over to tell her that we would be happy to…our seats for this couple. give out“分发; 发出”; give up“放弃”; give off“发出”; give away“捐赠”。 give up the seats“让座”。 glad“高兴的”; interested“感兴趣的”; tired“累的”; amazed“吃惊的”。 Are you sure?” 30.B 从文章的开头…my husband and I had the opportunity to do something good for two complete strangers. take good care of是固定搭配。 故选A项。 I had to go back to the front of the plane to retrieve a forgotten item和I saw that the newlyweds were sitting very close together可知答案。 satisfactorily“满意地”; shamefully“害羞地”; terribly “可怕地”; happily“幸福地”。从上文I saw that the newlyweds were sitting very close together可知那对新婚夫妇是幸福的。 We were traveling to Mexico for…week… 从Jim的言辞 It is magical和It's one of the most majestic animal movements… 从文章第一段的…he produces a sound like the singing of birds as he plays a traditional Buyi folk song. But all this is the efforts of Zhu Zheqin, a Cantoneseborn singer, who has made it her mission to help preserve China' s traditional ethnic music. This kind of repackaging gives young people a new door into their heritage. 从文章最后一段的“For China to really contribute to the world, we need to go on our own path. So what can represent China today?” The answer, she suggests, is to move from “made in China” to “created in China”. Tian won a bronze in the jumping challenge at a youth 看出B不正确; 从第四段的A month later, she won a gold in the jumping challenge at the International Equestrian Masters in the National Stadium in Beijing. She became interested in horses at the age of four… To be an equestrian, a woman has to be strong, be patient and work harder than a male counterpart… When she came to, instead of crying she stood up without the help of her coach, Ji Yuping可推出答案。 从第十三段的allows和send it to teachers via the Internet推出答案。 第三部分 根据第一段“…picking up a nap habit—or continuing to make time for one—is a smart, healthy move.” 根据第一段“The Mayo Clinic says naps promote relaxation, reduce tiredness, better mood and recover alertness (机敏).”中的“The Mayo Clinic says”可知是根据the Mayo Clinic,故用according(to)。better 根据第一段“…a midday nap was the best way to cope with the midafternoon slump”中的best可以转换成no better,“否定词+比较级”相当于最高级的意义。 根据第二段“…who napped regularly had a 37 percent reduced risk of dying from heart disease…” 根据第四段“How long to sleep:”可how long在这里相当于how much time。 根据第四段“…it's likely that your timing was just off.” 根据第五段“A power nap at this time can promote alertness for several hours and, for most people, won't affect being able to fall asleep at night.”中的“won't affect”可知without (affecting)。 根据标题“How to get comfortable: MentalFloss.com says it takes about 50 percent longer to fall asleep sitting up than lying down.” 根据倒数第二段“Surprisingly, the best place to sleep may be a hammock (吊床) if you have one.” 根据文章最后一段“…but drinking coffee right before a nap may be the perfect aid for maximum alertness. Since caffeine takes 20 to 30 minutes to take full effect, you'll feel even more alert after your 20minute nap.”
