  【山东省宿州市2017高考英语综合能力测试卷】

  阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。 From Oatie on 2017-02-13 04:05:25

Dominant(主流的)languages change quite often. As the countries and areas that speak a language grow and decrease in power, the language becomes either more or less widespreadremember that Latin and French were the most widely used languages in Europe as late as the 19th century.

I think English is currently powerful because of America’s central position in global affairs. Hopefully, in the future, Esperanto(世界语)will be the accepted second international language!!! From TTanya on 2017-02-26 20:10:28

I also have been wondering about the future of English as the world's Lingua Franca(通用语.I was thinking that maybe Chinese would overpower English as the dominant world business language. But it appears that the Chinese government is actively promoting English to their public school students. So maybe, if China becomes the next world power, English will remain the current Lingua Franca under Chinese influence. From Mymunkee on 2017 -03 -06 00:38:03

Esperanto is the only language of which there are no ethnic (种族的)ties, and it's a million times easier to learn than English. The idea of making everyone learn “your language” is socially dominating and can only result in dysfunctional(紊乱的)international relations. From Recata on 20 -03 -20 21:49:44

Perhaps the evolution English will face is to become more common, not more diverse. I say this because of broadcast media. For example, in Arabic countries, the dialects have been so distinct that people from various countries can not understand each other. However, with the increasing role of Broadcast Arabic, the language is becoming more unified(统一的). The continued expansion of English as an international business language will probably strengthen its commonality and weakening various dialects. An example is the word for “get in line”. I had never heard the British word “queue” several years ago, but now it is becoming commonplace in America. 56. Who thinks Chinese may replace English as the dominant world business language in the

阅读下列短文, 从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中, 选出最佳选项。Teen Dating can be fun if you are aware of its pros and cons and are also aware of the ways to protect yourself. There are a couple of suggestions you would like to know before you are out for dating.

Do not go out for dating with somebody whom you have seen only a few times and does not know much about him or her.

Before leaving on a date, know the exact plans for the evening and make sure a parent or friend knows these plans and what time to expect you home. Let your date know that you are expected to call or tell that person when you get in.

Similarly, if you leave a party with someone you do not know well, make sure you tell another person you are leaving and with whom. Ask a friend to call and make sure you arrive home safely.

No matter how good the person appears to you, trust your inner instincts (直感). If a situation makes you uncomfortable, try to stay calm and think of a way to remove yourself from the situation without letting your date realize what is going on in your mind.

Be aware of your decreased ability to react under the influence of alcohol or drugs and keep yourself in control when out for a date.

Always stay firm, straightforward and clear in your relationships, thoughts, decisions and judgments. Never let a doubt come to your mind or face when out for dating. If you are firm and clear in your communication, your date will always be careful in dealing with you.

You should think ahead about ways to be safe if you are in a dangerous or potentially dangerous relationship. Adults, like parents, teachers, counselors, can be trusted in such cases.

George Gershwin, born in 1898,was one of America's greatest composers. He published his first song when he was eighteen years old.During the next twenty years he wrote more than five hundred songs.

Many of Gershwin's songs were first written for musical plays performed in theatres in New York City. These plays were a popular form of entertainment in the 1920s and 1930s.Many of his songs have remained popular as ever.Over the years they have been sung and played in every possible way—from jazz to country.

In the 1920s there was a debate in the United States about jazz music.Could jazz, some people asked,be considered serious music? In 1924 jazz musician and orchestra leader Paul Whiteman decided to organize a special concert to show that jazz was serious music.Gershwin agreed to compose something for the concert before he realized he had just a few weeks to do it.And in that short time,he composed a piece for piano and orchestra which he called Rhapsody in Blue.Gershwin himself played the piano at the concert. The audience were thrilled when they heard his music. It made him worldfamous and showed that jazz music could be both serious and popular.

In 1928,Gershwin went to Paris. He applied to study composition (作曲)with the wellknown musician Nadia Boulanger, but she rejected him.She was afraid that classical study would ruin his jazzinfluenced style. While there,Gershwin wrote An American in Paris. When it was first performed, critics (评论家)were divided over the music. Some called it happy and full of life,to others it was stilly and boring. But it quickly became popular in Europe and the United States. It still remains one of his most famous works.

George Gershwin died in 1937,just days after doctors learned he had brain cancer. He was only thirtynine years old.Newspapers all over the world reported his death on their front pages.People mourned the loss of the man and all the music he might have still written.

  A.written about New Yorkers

  B.composed for Paul Whiteman

  C.played mainly in the countryside

  D.performed in various ways

解析 细节理解题。根据原文第二段末Over the years they have been sung and played in every possible way—from jazz to country.其中“they”指代Gershwin's musical works,“in every possible way ”与 various ways属于同义替换,所以选D。

  答案 D

A.It attracted more people to theatres.

B.It proved jazz could be serious music.

C.It made Gershwin leader of the orchestra.

解析 细节理解题。根据原文第三段中In 1924, jazz musician and orchestra leader Paul Whiteman decided to organize a special concert to show that jazz was serious music .其中“show that jazz was serious music”和B选项是表达的一个意思,所以选B。

  答案 B

15.What did Gershwin do during his stay in Paris?

A.He created one of his best works.

  B.He studied with Nadia Boulanger.

  C.He argued with French critics.

  答案 B

17.Which of the following best describes Gershwin?

  A.Talented and productive.

  B.Serious and boring.

  C.Popular and unhappy.

  D.Friendly and honest.

  答案 A

  较难题目特训:介绍说明类

The government of Norway is planning to build an unusual storage center on an island in the Arctic Ocean. The place would be large enough to hold about two million seeds. The goal is to represent all crops known to scientists. The British magazine New Scientist published details of the plan last month. The structure will be designed to protect the world’s food supply against nuclear war, climate change and other possible threats. It will be built in a mountain on the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen. The mountain is less than one thousand kilometers from the North Pole, the northernmost position on Earth.

An international group called the Global Crop Diversity Trust is working on the project. The director of the group, Cary Fowler, spoke to New Scientist. He said the project would let the world rebuild agriculture if in his words “the worst came to the worst”. Norway is expected to start work next year. The project is expected to cost three million dollars. Workers will drill deep in the side of a sandstone mountain. Temperatures in the area never rise above zero degrees Celsius. The seeds will be protected behind concrete walls a meter thick and high-security doors.

The magazine report says the collection will represent the products of ten thousand years of farming. Most of the seeds at first will come from collections at seed banks in Africa, Asia and Latin America. To last a long time, seeds need to be kept in very low temperatures. Workers will not be present all the time. But they plan to replace the air inside the storage space each winter. Winter temperatures on the island are about eighteen degrees below zero Celsius. The cold weather would protect the seeds even if the air could not be replaced.

Mr. Fowler says the proposed structure will be the world’s most secure gene bank. He says the plant seeds would only be used when all other seeds are gone for some reason.Norway first proposed the idea in the 1980s. But security concerns delayed the plan. At that time, the Soviet Union was permitted use of Spitsbergen. New Scientist says the plan won United Nations approval in October at a meeting in Rome of the Food and Agriculture Organization.

  55. The project is meant to_____.

  A. increase the world’s food production in the future

  B. carry out some scientific experiments on plant genes

  C. protect crop seeds from dying out in case of possible disasters

  D. build an exhibition centre of the world’s plant seeds

  56. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the above passage?

  A. The government of Norway will perform the project alone.

  B. Seeds to be collected there were produced ten thousand years ago.

  C. Spitsbergen is chosen because it is away from the threat of unclear war forever.

  D. Temperature is a major consideration when choosing the storage place.

  57. We can infer from the text that_____.

  A. People will get newly-developed seeds from the center every year

  B. The storage center will greatly promote the development of world agriculture

  C. Norway meant to have built the storage centre more than 20 years ago

  D. There haven’t been any seed storage centers in the world before

  58. What is probably the best title of the passage?

  A. Noah’s Ark of Plant Seeds in Plan

  B. The Best Place to Store Seeds

  C. Concerns of World Food Supply

  D. A New Way to Feed the World
