【湖北省2017高考英语《考试大纲》调研卷二模试题】C
Losing your luggage on a flight could soon be a thing of the past after an airline developed a bag that is impossible to lose. According to the latest industry figures, about 4 pieces of luggage will be lost on the average Boeing 747 flight. Passengers are most likely to lose a bag when changing flights, especially if the connection time is short.
One of the major reasons for luggage being lost is that the paper tags carrying the bar code(条形码)are ripped off as cases are shunted along conveyor belts to the aircraft. It was this that led to the loss of thousands of bags at London's Heathrow Airport in March 2008.
This luggage technology, known as Bag2Go, involves fixing a satellite tracker and a bar code onto the suitcase. Using a smartphone, a passenger sends details of their flight to the airline which in turn sends back a bar code which is shown on the display unit of the case. Each bar code is unique carrying details of the traveller, flight and destination.
Once on board a plane, a passenger can use a smartphone application to check that the bag is in place and inform flight crew if it's not there. Should the bag be loaded onto the wrong plane, satellite technology and the bar code means that it will be easily traced. It will enable the case to be delivered to the correct destination and returned to its owner.
At the same time, the passenger can keep track of the bag with the help of a mobile phone application, which has a number of functions, including informing a passenger if somebody tries to tamper(胡乱摆弄)with the bag.
The technology is still being developed by Airbus, T-Systems, a telecommunications company and RIMOWA, a suitcase manufacturer.
Passengers will be able to buy the bags, although renting them is another possibility. The advanced technology means that there may be no luggage conveyor belts in our future, as the satellite technology could mean bags are transported independently and directly from your house to the airplane's hold, and finally to your hotel.
59. What problem is the luggage technology meant to solve?

Cities need to put efforts to deal with pollution and clear the air.
Chinese cities will need to put efforts to clear up the sky when a new department to improve regional air quality is set up by 2017, according to the latest plan released by the State Council.
Besides the existing pollution control program for SO2, regional emission caps (区域排放上限) for other certain chemicals will be established in the three key air polluting areas— the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. Coal-consumption caps will also be tried out in some areas, according to the plan.
“The plan is aimed at dealing with regional air pollution—such as acid rain and smog—which have become increasingly obvious in China in recent years and caused a severe threat to people’s health,” Zhang Lijun, vice-minister of environmental protection, said in an interview on Monday.
“The air quality in a city affects the regions nearby because pollutants (污染物) Can travel through the atmosphere,” said Chai Fahe, vice-director of Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences.
“So efforts to reduce air pollution in a single city, targeting a certain pollutant will not be enough,” Chai said.
Zhang said, “The country’s major industrial districts—the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region—have recorded more than 100 misty days annually in recent years.”
These three regions, home to at least 200 million people, occupy only 6. 3 percent of the country’s area but consume 40 percent of the country’s coal and produce half of its steel, according to official figures.
Studies also show that the visibility (能见度) in eastern regions of China has dropped by 7 to 15 km compared to that in the early 1960s, as a result of air pollution.
Liaoning province, the Shandong Peninsula, Wuhan in Hubei province and its surrounding area, the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan region in Hunan province, the Chengdu-Chongqing region, and the western coast of the Taiwan Straits are also listed as areas to carry out such regional air pollution control programs, according to the plan.
The new plan also requires an improved air quality system, which will measure the pollution levels. “The current system, which only measures some major pollutants, cannot reflect the true picture.” said Chai.
9. It will not be enough to reduce air pollution in a single city because .
A. air pollution has been becoming more and more serious in recent years
B. air pollution like acid rain and smog is threatening people’s health
C. air pollutants in a city can travel in the sky and affect nearby areas
D. air pollutants stay in fixed places over the cities
10. Suppose the visibility in eastern regions of China was 130 km in the early 1960s, the visibility there nowadays is .
A. 123 to 115 kmB. 137 to 145 km
C. 123 to 145 kmD. 115 to 137 km
11. The main purpose of the passage is .
A. to inform readers of the damage caused by air pollution
B. to introduce the new plan to control air pollution
C. to provide official figures of air pollution levels
D. to point out the regions affected by air pollution
12. What does the underlined phrase“the true picture”in the last paragraph mean?
A. The major pollutants.
B. The key polluted areas.

【广西省南宁市2017高考英语模拟试题】C
Happy birthday! Do birthday really make people happy? Of course they do. Birthday celebrate the day when we were born. Besides, that extra candle on the cake suggest another year of growth and maturity(成熟— or so we hope. We all like to imagine that we are getting wiser and not just older. Most of us enjoy seeing the wonder of growth in others, as well. For instance, seeing our children develop and learn new things makes us feel proud. For Americans, like people in most cultures, growing up is a wonderful process. But growing old? That is a different story.
Growing old is not exactly for people in youth-oriented American culture. Most Americans like to look young, act young and feel young. As the old saying goes, “You’re young as you feel.” Older people joke about how many years young they are, rather than how many years old. People in some countries value the aged as a source of experience and wisdom. But Americans seem to favor those that are young, or at least “young at heart”.
Many older Americans find the “golden years” to be anything but golden. Economically, “senior citizens” often struggle just to get by. Retirement at the age of 65 brings a sharp decrease in personal income. Social security benefits usually cannot make up the difference. Older people may suffer from poor nutrition, medical care, and housing. Some even experience age discrimination. American sociologist Pat Moore once dressed up like an older person and wandered in city streets. She was often treated rudely -- even cheated and robbed. However, dressed as a young person, she received much more respect.
Unfortunately, the elderly population in America is increasing fast. Why? People are living longer. Fewer babies are being born. And middle-aged “baby boomers” are rapidly entering the group of the elderly. America may soon be a place where wrinkles(皱纹are “in”. Marketing experts are ready noticing this growing group of consumers.

B. the old in America are leading a hard life without good nutrition, medical care or housing
C. the old in America have to retire at the age of 65
D. American social security benefits are not good
66. What does the underlined word “in” in the last paragraph mean?
A. serious
B. cool
C. disappearing slowly D. growing fast
67. According to this passage, which of the following statement is true?
A. the young are much more respected than the old in America.
B. the old are much more respected than the young in America.
C. growing old makes people feel proud in America.
D. the young are often discriminated in America

You know eating fruit and vegetables does good. But do you know it can also make you look good? People who increased their intake over just six weeks developed a healthy glow and appeared more attractive, researchers found. Scientists at St Andrews University found eating them slightly increased yellow and red pigments in the volunteers' skin. They monitored the food intake of 35 people and took pictures of their faces, arms and hands using a sensitive camera at the start, and after three and six weeks. Increasing their intake of greens by 2.9 portions a day was found to make the person look more healthy and an extra 3.3 portions could enhance their attractiveness, when their photographs were rated by others.
Fruit and vegetables are rich in carotenoids(类胡萝卜素),which are known to protect against cell damage from pollution and UV rays, and can also prevent age-related diseases including heart disease and cancer. But while it was known eating extreme amounts of certain vegetables such as carrots could turn skin orange,it was not known a small increase was perceptible(被觉察)to others—and was seen as appealing.
A camera measured changes to the skin's redness, yellowness and lightness, and found it significantly changed in people who naturally increased their intake. These changes were not evident in three weeks. Using light sensors, the researchers showed these red and yellow hues were linked with the levels of carotenoids in their skin. There are hundreds of carotenoids but those thought to have the most dramatic effect are lycopene(番茄红素)—which gives tomatoes and red peppers their red colour—and beta-carotene found in carrots as well as broccoli, squash, and spinach. Skin colour is also affected by chemicals called polyphenols(多元酚),found in apples, blueberries and cherries, which cause blood rush to the skin surface.
31. What do we know from the research?
A. If you take in a little more fruit and vegetables, you will obviously look more attractive in three weeks.
B. The researchers took the pictures of the 35 people in the research at different stages.
C. Increasing your intake of greens by 2.9 portions a day can greatly improve your health.
D. People who increased their intake of greens by 3.3 portions a day were found the most attractive after six weeks.
32. Which of the following is NOT the function of carotenoids?
A. They can protect against cell damage from pollution and UV rays.
B. They can prevent heart disease and cancer.
C. They can prevent age-related diseases.
D. They can keep you in good health.
33. Which of the statements is NOT TRUE according to the passage?
A. We've already known eating extreme amounts of carrots can turn skin orange.
B. We knew in the past that eating a few more carrots could make us look appealing.
C. The research showed the improvement in skin is linked with the levels of carotenoids in it.
D. Among hundreds of carotenoids, lycopene is thought to have the most dramatic
34. We can infer from the passage that _____.
A. skin's redness, yellowness and lightness make a person look more healthy and attractive
B. carotenoids have the same effect as lycopene
C. it is carotenoids that give tomatoes and red peppers their red colour
D. both beta-carotene and polyphenols affect skin colour by causing blood rush to the skin surface
35. Which can be the best title of the passage?
A. Eating fruit and vegetables does good.
B. Fruit and vegetables are rich in carotenoids.
C. How to become attractive?
D. Eating fruit and vegetables makes you look good.
