1.The driver was at______loss when______ word came that he was forbidden to drive for speeding.

  A./;the B.a;the

  C./;/

  D.a;/

2.I’ll never forget the days ______ we spent together in the countryside with farmers,______ has a great effect on my life.

  A.that;which

  B.when;which

  C.which;that

  D.when;who

  答案:A

3.There is no love,no friendship in the world,like______of parents for their child.

  A.that

  B.those

  C.the one

  D.the ones

  答案:A

  A.whom

  B.who

  答案:A

5.Shanghai is the first city in our country ______ the World Exposition.

  A.to hold

  B.to be held

  C.to have held

  D.to have been held

6.If you want to do something good to society, please don’t care______others think about you.Believe yourself.

  A.how

  B.when

  C.which

  D.what

  答案:C

10.When was it in the library ______ you met him?

  A.where

  B.that

  C.in which

  D.which

  答案:B

11.Never believe anything ______ any other person has believed it.Use your own head.

  A.that

  B.unless

  答案:C

  12. Please forgive me if I have hurt you.I would rather ______ anything the day before yesterday.

  A.wouldn’t say

  B.not have said

  C.didn’t say

  D.don’t say

解析:考查would rather not have done sth.相当于would rather sb.hadn’t done sth.

13.When ______ different languages,we may learn about there being not only some differences but many similarities.

  A.comparing

  B.being compared

  A

The earliest development of silk painting took place in India around 200 AD,and it was shortly after that when similar techniques were developed in China.Japanese art was heavily influenced by Chinese culture. The earliest complex art from Japan came between the seventh and eighth centuries.Early Japanese silk paintings were done with black ink or paint, and were generally monochromatic.Entering the 14th century Japanese artists began using a range of coloring matter, adding color to paintings.

Between the 16th and l8th centuries silk painting began to spread from its origins in Eastern Asia across the continent and eventually worldwide as intercontinental trade began to take place. In the 18th century, with the rise of the industrial revolution, silk became a readily accessible canvas(画布)and silk painting was popularized with European countries.Today the art of silk painting continues to develop and Japan ranks top as one of the cultural originators(发明者)of the tradition, says silkpainting expert Gill Kitchen.

The production of silk has taken place for more than 3,500 years.Although Chinese people originated the practice of silk harvesting in Eastern Asia, the Japanese got hold of silkworm eggs and began the production of silk.So Japanese had the opportunity of using silk canvases for artistic means. The largest influence for Japanese silk painting from its origin was Buddhism. It was with Buddhism that Japan originated its cultural and artistic identity. One common theme among early Japanese silk paintings was about historical events or heroes. The other common theme in Japanese art is that many Japanese paintings describe nature. Some common natural elements in Japanese silk paintings are birds, flowers, wildlife, mountains, trees and bamboo.

Until the 14th century, the Japanese used a brush rather than a pen for writing,to which their perfected skill in painting can be owed.Japanese artists have been using fine strokes(笔画)and accurate details to compose complex paintings.Another common practice in early Japanese art is the incorporation of written poetry into art to help convey the message of the painting.

We bought our new house that afternoon, and I was in the workshop of the garage.I noticed a part of a carpet sticking out of the ceiling of an attic(阁楼)that was strange.I found a ladder and headed up.

I climbed into a space above the workshop that was walled off from the rest of the attic. As my eyes adjusted to the dark,I saw a metal container.I opened the lid and was shocked by what I saw:several rolls of money tied up in orange string.Holy cow,I thought,I’ve found, like $800.Awesome!

But there was more than one box of money.I found another seven boxes full to the top, plus two big black bags full of cash.I won’t lie.My first thought was that this was a blessing from God—the means to fix up this rundown house;to adopt a child, something we’d talked so long about doing;or just to use to make life easier for our two young sons, who were seven and four. But I knew as soon as I had those fantasies that the right thing was to return the money to the previous owners. So I called them and asked them to drop by.

They were shocked,of course, not only about the money but that I was returning it.They had recently got the house from their dad and said it must have been their dad who had hidden the money. What made him do it?I thought about the hundreds of times he had gone to his shop, cut off a length of orange string, and bound up a roll of money.I like to think he did it for his children.

There were balls of that orange string still hanging on the wall of the workshop when we moved in.I used them to tie up Christmas presents last year, for my kids.I hope it reminded them of the gift greater than money that my wife and I gave them by returning the money. We did the right thing, and our children will never forget that.
