　　besides 除了… 还有…

　　except 除了… 都… except for 除了…, 只是…(对整体情况的一个修正,but常与下列词连用:a.否定词no one, none, nothing等; b.疑问词who, what等; c.不定代词all, everyone等; 在but, cannot choose but,与cannot help but 之后的不定式一般都不带to, 常译为“不得不”。和一般介词不同的是besides、except 的后面可以跟when, where,that 等连词引导的宾语从句。

　　例句：

　　Nothing but disaster would come from such a plan.

　　Who but Tom would do such a thing?

　　All the students went to see the movie except Tom, because he was absent that day.

　　They all went to see the movie besides Jack.

　　Your composition is good except a few spelling mistakes.

　　I can’t but admire her courage.

　　另外，在but 之前如有实意动词do,其后的不定式不用to, 即：do nothing but +动词原形，译为“只好…”例如：

　　He does nothing but complain.

　　He had no choice but to accept the fact.
