   高考题型提能练(二十二) Unit 22

  Ⅰ.阅读理解

  A

Traditional businessmen feel worried that growing ecommerce will reduce their share of the

  market.

According to a survey, 90% of some people's purchases are made on the computer. As they

find that by being able to go online and choose the things that they need to choose, and have them

delivered right to their doorsteps, they could no longer be bothered with driving, the crowds, the

noise of that, and they usually get a better selection.

Cornell University Marketing Professor, MeLaughlin says traditional stores can keep their

customers by offering goods like clothing, which customers may want to see and try on before

purchasing, as well as items that are difficult to ship. He says some traditional stores are also

pleasing customers with services that set up or repair computers and electronics.

Traditional stores also offer a social experience that some shoppers enjoy. There is still a lot

of emotion in the buying decision that takes place. Oftentimes, you need that last sense of “this is

exactly what I want” before you part with money. And you can't always get that online. It's a

  rather cold process.

As more and more people have Internet access and smart phones, online commerce is likely

to continue its growth here in the United States and in other countries.

(2016·石家庄市教学检测)Pilates, yoga and the running machine get all the attention when it comes to popular ways to stay healthy. There is, however, a more humble exercise that might not be so attractive, but has all the benefits — walking.

Certified fitness professional Jolynn Jaekel explains, “What I love about walking is that anyone can do it at any age and any fitness level. Plus, it is good for your heart, your head and your wallet.”

A recent report details the health benefits of walking. The report found that walking regularly to fulfill the 150 minutes of moderate physical exercise every week, recommended by the UK's chief medical officer, could save 37,000 lives each year. Scientists at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California found that quick walking reduces the risk of heart disease more effectively than running. They observed participants aged between 18 and 80 over a sixyear period and found that walking reduced the risk of heart disease by 9.3%, while running reduced it by 4.5%. And there is even more good news: 30 minutes of quick walking over five days could help you sleep easily, according to research by Oregon State University. The study by the university showed that walking helped participants sleep better and feel more alert during the day.

The sooner you get started, the sooner you'll notice the differences in your mind and body. So, go out for your 30minute walk in a nearby park or green space.

Kristen says the idea came to her after she saw how much waste she and her three college roommates generated on a daily basis. The Fine Arts student began to dream about transforming the deserted bags and packages into beautiful garments.

Her first dress made from plastic bags and rolled magazines was strange, fun and even charming. However, she only made it to test her creativity.

The young designer did not consider starting a commercial venture(企业)until she spent a week working at Couture Fashion Week in New York City. There she observed the excitement generated by new and vintage(复古的)looks and decided to see if her unusual idea would result in as much enthusiasm. She began by creating a line of 12 garbageinspired dresses. They were a huge success.

Today her company that has offices in Palm Beach, Florida and New York City, produces a wide variety of dresses ranging from cocktail dresses to ball gowns (礼服).Kristen, of course, doesn't search garbage cans for her material anymore.Instead, she seeks it from companies that have produced more than they need and are planning to throw away the extras.

However, if you think the garbageinspired dresses come cheap, think again. The price for readymade creations retails(零售)from $500 to $1,500.Though that may appear expensive, the designer says she has no shortage of customers. In fact she now even has garbageinspired clothing for men that includes jackets, ties, trousers and even board shorts!
