  2016高考模拟题

  (由2017·广东卷A改编)

Samuel Osmond is a 19-year-old law student from Cornwall, England. He never studied the piano. However, he can play very difficult musical pieces by musicians such as Chopin and Beethoven just a few minutes after he hears them. He learns a piece of music by listening to it in parts. Then he thinks about the notes in his head. Two years ago, he played his first piece Moonlight Sonata(奏鸣曲)by Beethoven. He surprised everyone around him.

Amazed that he remembered this long and difficult piece of music and played it perfectly, his teachers say Samuel is unbelievable .They say his ability is very rare, but Samuel doesn’t even realize that what he can do is special. Samuel wanted to become a lawyer as it was the wish of his parents, but music teachers told him he should study music instead. Now, he studies law and music.

Samuel can’t understand why everyone is so surprised. “I grew up with music. My mother played the piano and my father played the guitar. About two years ago, I suddenly decided to start playing the piano, without being able to read music and without having any lessons. It comes easily to me ---I hear the notes and can bear them in mind---each and every note,” says Samuel.

Recently, Samuel performed a piece during a special event at his college. The piece had more than a thousand notes. The audience was impressed by his amazing performance. He is now learning a piece that is so difficult that many professional pianists can’t play it. Samuel says confidently,” It’s all about super memory---I guess I have that gift.”

However, Samuel’s ability to remember things doesn’t stop with music. His family says that even when he was a young boy, Samuel heard someone read a story, and then he could retell the story word for word.

Samuel is still only a teenager. He doesn’t know what he wants to do in the future. For now, he is just happy to play beautiful music and continue his studies.

阅读理解Mr. Peter Johnson, aged twenty-three, battled for half an hour to escape from his trapped car yesterday when it landed upside down in three feet of water. Mr. Johnson took the only escape route—through the boot(行李箱).

Mr. Johnson’s car had finished up in a ditch(沟渠)at Romney Marsin, Kent after skidding(打滑)on ice and hitting a bank. “Fortunately, the water began to come in only slowly, ”Mr. Johnson said. “I couldn’t force the doors because they were jammed against the walls of the ditch and I dared not open the windows because I knew water would come flooding in. ”

Mr. Johnson, a sweet salesman of Sitting Home, Kent, first tried to attract the attention of other motorists by sounding the horn and hammering on the roof and boot. Then he began his struggle to escape.

Later he said, “It was really a half penny that saved my life. It was the only coin I had in my pocket and I used it to unscrew the back seat to get into the boot. I hammered desperately with a hammer trying to make someone hear, but no help came. ”

It took ten minutes to unscrew the seat, and a further five minutes to clear the sweet samples from the boot. Then Mr. Johnson found a wrench(扳手)and began to work on the boot lock. Fifteen minutes passed by. “It was the only chance I had. Finally it gave, but as soon as I moved the boot lid, the water and mud poured in. I forced the lid down into the mud and scrambled clear as the car filled up. ”

His hands and arms cut and bruised(擦伤), Mr. Johnson got to Beckett Farm nearby, where he was looked after by the farmer’s wife, Mrs. Lucy Bates. Huddled in a blanket, he said, “That thirty minutes seemed like hours. ”Only the tips of the car wheels were visible, police said last night. The vehicle had sunk into two feet of mud at the bottom of the ditch.

There are many dangerous sea creatures in the world. The following are some examples.

The needlefish are commonly seen living near the surface of tropical (热带的) waters. But they can also break__cover the water, and once in the air they can become dangerous flying swords.Though it is rare, people have been seriously hurt and even killed when stabbed by the fish's sharp and long jaws (下巴).Night fishermen in small boats are at particular risk because their lights may attract the fish.

Saltwater crocodiles are the world's largest crocodiles, sometimes reaching 23 feet in length and topping 2,200 pounds.Yet these crocodiles hunt quietly, lying in wait below shoreline waters to attack crabs, turtles and thirsty animals that have come to drink.Saltwater crocodiles kill a number of people each year.

There is no doubt that the great white shark sits atop the ocean food chain. The world's largest fish can weigh at over 5,000 pounds and reach lengths of more than 20 feet.Great white sharks have about 3,000 teeth, which they typically sink into sea lions, seals, small toothed whales, and sea turtles. These sharks are responsible for a third to a half of the 100 shark attacks on humans every year.

  The sea anemone

(海葵) may look like the beautiful flower for which it's named, but fish that swim too close may regret it.The sea anemone, which lives on the sea floor, uses its poisonous tentacles (触须) to stab passing creatures with a kind of poison—making them helpless and fit to be eaten.

The surgeonfish (刺尾鱼) is an attractive reef fish that is poisonous.Scientists believe that the world's seas hold some 1,200 different surgeonfish species and think that they injure about 50,000 people per year. But the surgeonfish poison can also bring great benefit—they are useful in the development of new drugs.

(2016·日照校际联合检测)At least three people are dead in the Philippines now that Typhoon Hagupit has landed.

The typhoon, which hit the eastern Philippines over the weekend, has blown down trees and sent more than 650thousand people into shelters before weakening.

“There were very strong winds last night. The roof was beginning to move, and rain was getting inside the rooms,” said a villager.

The storm hit with gusts (强风) of over 100 miles per hour. And while the storm has slowed considerably from the super typhoon level it had last week, Hagupit still remains strong enough to create more damage.

Christopher Perez is a local weather forecaster. He says, “We are continuing to expect bad weather and rough ocean waves. Threats of possible flash floods and landslides (滑坡) as well as possible storm waves are occurring in coastal areas.”

Hagupit is expected to roll into the South China Sea tomorrow.

It's currently going westward toward the southern tip of Vietnam, meaning it's unlikely to affect China.

Hagupit's strength in the Philippines is much less severe than Typhoon Haiyan, which rolled through the country in 2017.

Haiyan's tsunamilike storm waves and killer winds left thousands of people dead and leveled_entire_villages.

The central Philippines is still trying to recover from last year's massive storm waves.

B.were of the same sea level as the villages

  C.killed all the villagers

D.blew down all the trees in the villages

3.Which of the following places suffered most when Typhoon Haiyan rolled in?

  A.The eastern Philippines.

  B.The southern tip of Vietnam.

  C.The South China Sea.

  D.The central Philippines.

4.What do we know about Typhoon Haiyan from the passage?

A.It caused less severe damage than Typhoon Hagupit.
