The Obama administration has filed an "unfair trade" complaint with the World Trade Organisation over Chinese duties on US-made cars.
Washington thinks the tariffs, which could add as much as 21.5% to the price of a luxury car, are unfair. The comments coincide with Obama’s campaign tour of the car-making states of Ohio and Michigan.
The tour starts a new phase of Obama’s re-election campaign as he takes a more trade-oriented approach ahead of the November presidential elections.Obama has boasted that his administration brought trade cases against China at a faster pace than the previous administration.
China has been a point of contention between Obama and the Republican presidential candidate, Mitt Romney. Romney has accused Obama of being too soft on China, while the Obama campaign accuses Romney of promoting the outsourcing of jobs to China.
