  (A)

Kieron Williamson, a seven-year-old British boy, is being recognized as an art genius after selling 16 paintings for 18, 000 pounds in just 14 minutes. This boy has artistic skills that would be the envy of any serious painter and drawn comparisons to Pablo Picasso, a child prodigy(神童)who became one of the most recognized artists of the 20th century.

It all began on a family holiday to Cornwall on the southwest English coast when Kieron was five. Inspired by the view, he asked his parents for his first sketch-pad (速写纸). From that moment on, he became deeply interested. While supportive, Kieron’s parents are careful not to push their son. He only paints when and what he wants.

He has a waiting list of hundreds and requests for his works have been flooding in. His father said a sale of Kieron’s works held in November even drew a buyer from Japan. “We had people driving down that night, there were people on the door waiting to come in the morning who had been standing outside, the phones were going mad as soon as the door opened at nine o’clock and within 14 minutes all the 16 pictures had gone, ” he said.

All this talent, money and high praise could so easily go to a young boy’s head, but Kieron said his friends keep him grounded. “Some of them want to be as good as me and some of them think. . . Umn, ‘you are not too special’, ” he said.

Kieron’s favourite painter is British artist Edward Seago and he has spent some of his earnings buying a work by his hero. The rest is being invested by his parents until he reaches 25. Kieron’s parents and his younger sister Billi-Jo don’t see him as anything other than a normal seven-year-old boy who likes to tear around the house and who’s mad about football. But for now, with so much still to learn, there’s only one thing he wants to be when he grows up. He said, “I think I’ll definitely be an artist. ”

A study of the impact of 3D in the classroom has found that it improves test results by an average of 17%.

Increasingly schools are using 3D projectors and learning resources to add a new dimension to learning.

The research, conducted in seven schools across Europe, found that 3D-enabled learning tools helped children concentrate more.

It also led shy children to speak up in class discussions.

Only a handful of schools in the UK use the technology, which requires a 3D-enabled projector as well as 3D glasses for all pupils and a set of bespoke(定做的)learning resources.

The study, conducted by researchers from the International Research Agency on behalf of Texas Instruments, assessed 740 students in schools across France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Turkey, the UK and Sweden. Students were tested before and after the lessons with a control group learning with traditional resources only.

On average, 86% of pupils in 3D classrooms improved in test results, compared to 52% of children using traditional teaching methods.

It also found that attention levels rose sharply—with 92% of the class paying attention during 3D lessons compared to 46% in the traditional learning environment.

“It grabbed children’s attention and this carried on beyond the 3D episode, it seemed to trigger an interest in learning that maintained through the rest of the lesson, ” said Prof. Anne Bamford, who led the study.

“The level of questioning also increased and teachers reported that the children asking questions were those that wouldn’t normally engage in class, ” she told the BBC.

Researchers observed a series of biology lessons, in which children learned about the functions of the body.

“Children can see how things function. Instead of learning about the heart statically(静态地) they can see it in a solid way, literally see blood passing through the valves, see exchange of oxygen, rotate it, tilt it and zoom in, ” said Prof. Bamford.

  60. 3D-enabled learning tools have the following benefits EXCEPT that_____.

  A. they can help children concentrate more in class

  B. they can make shy children speak up in class discussions

  C. they can improve children’s test results

  D. they can make students have fewer questions to ask

  61. In the study, students have to _____.

  A. learn in both 3D classrooms and traditional classrooms

  B. learn the lessons statically

  C. have a test before and after the lessons

  D. be chosen across the world

  62. The underlined word “trigger” in the passage probably means____.

  A. arouse

  B. share

  C. lose

  D. show

  63. It can be inferred from the passage that_____.

  A. European and American students participated in the study

  B. 3D learning tools are positive for children

  C. 3D lessons have short effects on children’s memory

  D. every student concentrates on the lessons in 3D classrooms

Are you a problem shopper? The answer is “Yes”, if you or someone else thinks that you sometimes get carried away with shopping. In other words, do you or does someone else think you are occupied in extreme shopping? If people have regrets later about their shopping, or have an “out-of-control” feeling about the quantities of what they buy or the amount of credit they use, they may be considered to be problem shoppers.

Extreme shopping can lead to a more serious problem—addictive shopping. Addictive shoppers feel driven by the desire to shop and spend money. They experience great tension which drives them to shop and spend money and they feel a “rush” during the time they are occupied with the shopping activity.

Extreme or addictive shopping may result from long-time unpleasant feelings, of which anxiety, pain and shame are common ones. When we feel bad inside, we often do something to make ourselves feel better. In this case, we often go shopping.

A few people shop to relieve their boredom or emptiness. For some people, the motivation is a desire for status, power, beauty or success. Some love to shop as it makes them feel valued in the eyes of the shop assistants. Others shop simply because it makes them forget, at least temporarily, tension, fear or unhappiness in their life.

Besides, shopping malls are designed to encourage continual shopping. For instance, there are some malls where you can’t see clocks displaying the time because they don’t want you to become too aware of the time you spend there. What’s more, food courts, coffee shops and restrooms are provided, so you don’t have to leave the mall because of your physical needs.

Therefore, once you become aware of how market forces work, you will certainly come to control your shopping behavior. For example, how much time you will spend and what areas you will visit can be decided before you enter the mall. Keep a written account of what items you will buy and how much money you will spend. Make a plan for what you are going to buy before you feel the urge to shop and then stick to it. That is vital for gaining self-control.

68.Which of the following people may not be problem shoppers?

A.Those who cannot control the amount of credit they use.

B.Those who just walk around the shopping malls.

C.Those who are occupied in too much shopping.

D.Those who feel sorry for their shopping.

69.According to the passage, what may not result in addictive shopping?

A.The awareness of how market forces work.

B.The desire for status, power, beauty or success.

C.Boredom, emptiness, tension, fear or unhappiness in people’s life.

D.Long-time bad feelings of anxiety, pain and shame.

70.How can we control our shopping behavior according to the passage?

A.Never going to the shopping malls because there are many tricks.

B.Applying for a credit card before we go shopping.

C.Making the shopping time as short as possible.

D.Making a shopping list before we go shopping.

71.The author writes this passage to. A.tell the shopping malls how to attract more shoppers

  B.scold the problem shoppers

C.provide solutions for the problem shoppers

  D.tell a shopping story

Bored at school now? How do you think it will look in the future? Last week, about 600 teenagers in the U. S. imagined a future changed by technology in which their lessons are taught by robots and they learn about celebrities(名人)and alien(外星人)languages.

According to a survey published last week by the U. S. , Internet service provider American Online(AOL), only one in 100 thinks that in the future they will walk from home to school; the rest believe they will use jet packs and hover boards(滑板) as everyday transport.

All the participants(参与者)of the survey are teenagers born in the Internet age. The study is to show how the first cyber (网络的)generation dream about a future life created by advanced technology.

Most believe there will still be schools to go to, but that technology will play an increasingly important role in learning. The 600 teens surveyed think there will still be teachers, but 37 percent imagine them to be robots. Some 24 percent believe that teachers will still be human but they will have inter-changeable microchips so that one person can teach all subjects.

More than one in two believe hover boarding will be popular, while one-third say that wearing rocket boots will be their favorite activity. Another third think jet packs will be popular. Nearly 30 percent think playing football and bike-riding will remain popular.

When it comes to the curriculum(课程), they think future generations will be learning about robot building(63 percent), alien languages(47 percent), celebrities(26 percent) and R’n’B music(22 percent).

Children will wear virtual(虚拟的)reality helmets(头盔) to bring lessons to life, say 40 percent, while over 20 percent believe they will not need lessons because microchips implanted(植入)in their head will send relevant information into the brain.

  (Text 1)

M: OK, Gabrielle, you have been a teacher for quite a while.

W: Yes. You know, ①I worked as a secretary for only two months after I graduated. Maybe teaching is what I really like.

  (Text 2)

M: When will the show begin?

W: ②It began 10 minutes ago.

M: What time is it now?

  W: ②It’s 9: 40.

  (Text 3)

W: Well, ③I’d rather be going home now. It’s been great seeing you again.

M: Oh, it was nice seeing you too.

  (Text 4)

M: What can I do for you, madam?

W: ④I’m looking for a new dress for my daughter as a Christmas present.

  (Text 5)

M: I’m feeling kind of sick tonight. I don’t know if I have a virus, or if it’s something I ate for lunch.

⑤Maybe we should stay at home tonight.

  W: ⑤ I think you’re right. I feel a little under the weather myself.

  (Text 6)

M: Hi, Mary. Do you live far from the school?

W: Yes, very far. It takes me one hour by bus.

  M: Why don’t you ride a bike?

W: ⑦There is a lot of traffic.

M: That’s not a problem, if you are careful enough. ⑥I go to school by bike every day.

  W: I’ll try.

  (Text 7)

W: ⑧Was there an accident on the freeway today?

M: You haven’t heard about it?

W: No, do you know what happened?

M: A car knocked into a truck on the 210, ⑨but strangely enough the truck turned over.

  W: Are you serious?

M: I’m telling you the truth.

  W: Did anyone get hurt?

  M: Two people were injured.

W: Well, it’s unbelievable that no one was killed.

  M: Yes, they were lucky.

  (Text 8)

M: Hello, Susan. How is everything in New York?

W: ⑩Never is better, Henry. How are you? How is the family?

M: Everyone is fine, but actually I am feeling a little tired these days.

W: You are getting older, Henry. ⑪And you are heavier than you used to be.

M: Everyone gets older, but you look younger than ever. What’s your secret?

W: There is no secret. ⑫I get more exercise than you, and I am more careful about my diet. You should be, too.

M: You are right. When the weather is warmer, I’ll do it.

W: No, Henry. You should start now.

M: OK, I’ll start today. Thank you for the advice.

  (Text 9)

W: So, ⑯what are you going to do this summer?

M: Well, I’m probably going on holiday with my parents for a week, but I really hope I can get a summer job in a market. What about you?

W: I’m going to Scotland for the summer.

  M: For the whole summer?

W: Yes, well, I’m going for seven weeks. ⑬I’m going to work in a hotel in the mountains.

  M: Really? That sounds great!

W: Yes, I think so. I mean, the work won’t be very interesting. It’ll be mostly cooking, cleaning and working on reception, selling drinks and things. ⑭But my hours are seven till ten in the morning and five till nine in the evening, ⑮so I’ll have plenty of time during the day to go walking.

M: I wish I could get a job like that. How did you find out about it?

W: I read about it in a book called Summer Work Round Britain. It tells you about all kinds of different jobs in different places. You can work on farms picking fruits, or at hotels near the sea. You can even get work at music festivals.

  (Text 10)

M: We are lucky to have in the studio today, Molly Taylor. Molly is arranging an activity course for the summer holidays. Molly, this is the second year of the course, isn’t it?

W: Yes, that’s right. ⑰The summer course operated last year for a six-week period. We did think about making it longer this year and have a seven-week course, as some schools finished term a week earlier. ⑰But in the end we decided to keep to the same plan as last year. And we were actually very surprised last year by the number of people interested in the course. ⑱We didn’t actually have enough workers to look after all the children who wanted to attend and we had to turn people away. There was such a lot of rain that we had to organize art and music activities indoors. This year we also considered providing some more exciting adventure sports like rock climbing and caving. We decided not to, in the end, because it would make the course a lot more expensive for parents. Instead, we’re introducing some fun projects. ⑲For example, we’re going to put on a talent show and organize an American Night. I think it will be good fun for the kids, and for us to teach them good skills too. As parents, you should go to my website, www. summeractivities. co. uk and print out an application form. Send it to my office address as soon as possible, because the places are going fast. ⑳We do need to know if the child has any special need regarding his diet.

  1~5.BCBBA

  6~10.BABBB

  11~15.ACABA

  16~20.CABCC

  21.【解析】选A。

  22.【解析】选A。 or否则;but但是;so因此;and并且。

  23.【解析】选A。

  24.【解析】选A。 故选A。

Our school has developed a learning system

students can do a lot of teamwork.

  A. that

  B. when

  C. which

  D. where

引导限制性定语从句的关系代词有who, whom, whose, that, which和关系副词when, where, why等。

eg. This is the man who helped me.

I was the only person in our office that was invited to the palace ball.

引导非限制性定语从句的关系代词有who, whom, whose, which, as和关系副词when, where,一般不用that 引导。

eg. I have two sisters, who are both doctors.

Last Sunday they reached Shanghai, where a meeting was being held.

stick to 坚持;refer to 提到,谈到,涉及;turn to 转向,求助于;object to 反对。

第二句句意:我不会告诉任何人,不过你认为你能侥幸过关吗?get away with有错未受惩罚;get away from 从某处逃走,摆脱某人;break away from 挣脱;脱离(政党,组织等);run away from 逃离;从……

  34.【解析】选A。

  35.【解析】选A。

  39.【解析】选A。 into是动态介词,此处相当于and went into。

40.【解析】选B。从前面的动词 followed, watched以及 as her little behind 判断,他女儿看到他,赶紧“拐入”洗澡间。

  43.【解析】选A。

  45.【解析】选A。

  46.【解析】选A。

I’M A PERFECT LITTLE ANGEL!

  52.【解析】选A。

  59.【解析】选A。

The level of questioning also increased. . . the children asking questions were those that wouldn’t normally engage in class,即在3D课堂中,学生的提问并没有变少。

(The research, conducted in seven schools across Europe),所以D项错误。 (Students were tested before and after the lessons with a control group learning with traditional resources only.

  62.【解析】选A。

文中提到,在3D课堂中,92%的学生注意力集中(with 92% of the class paying attention during 3D lessons),故D项错误。

  65.【解析】选A。

根据文章的One Day Tickets最后一句话 “Buy tickets online now!

69.【解析】选A。 B、C、D项是讲人们购物的原因,而A项则不会导致购物上瘾,这从原文最后一段第一句内容(once you become aware of how market forces work, you will certainly come to control your shopping behavior.

根据原文最后一段中的“Keep a written account of what items you will buy and how much money you will spend. Make a plan for what you are going to buy before you feel the urge to shop and then stick to it.

根据第一段末尾的“to improve their cognitive skills didn’t get any smarter”和第二段中的“to improve their memory, reasoning and other skills”可知D项正确。

根据第二段中的More than 8, 600 people和第三段中的more than 2, 700 people,可知D项正确。

  Dear Mr Smith,

I’m Li Ming. Three years ago, I received your letter and schooling fees so that I could continue my study. I am very grateful for your kindness and generosity.

But for your help, I wouldn’t have been enjoying a wonderful life in this beautiful school. I have been doing quite well in my study and in a few weeks’ time I will take the National College Entrance Examination, which I will try my best to pass.

I will spare no effort to improve myself in college. Only in this way can I learn more and use what I’ve known to help those in need. Besides, I’m determined to go back to my hometown after graduation, devote myself to building my hometown and make it more prosperous and beautiful.

Words seem to fail me when I try once more to express my thanks to you, and I’ll keep my promise and not let you down.

  Yours sincerely,

  Li Ming
