The office has always been a place to get ahead. Unfortunately, it is also a place where a lot of natural resources start to fall behind. Take a look around next time you 're at work. See how
many lights are left on when people leave. See how much paper is being wasted. How much electricity is being used to run computers that are left on. Look at how much water is being wasted in the restrooms. And how much solid waste is being thrown out in the rubbish cans. we bet it's a lot. Now, here are some simple ways you can produce less waste at work. When you are at the copier, only make the copies you need. Use both sides of the paper when writing something less important. Turn off your lights when you leave. Use a lower watt bulb in your lamp. Drink your coffee or tea out of your mugs instead of single-use cups. Set up a recycling box for cans and one for bottles. And when you're in the bathroom brushing your teeth or washing your face, don't let the tap run. Remember, if we use fewer resources today, we'll save more for tomorrow. 56. The main purpose of the passage is to tell people
A. the disadvantages of working in an office

(2011·合肥第二次质检,E)
Fujitsu, a Japanese technology company, has created a system capable of simultaneously (同时地)charging multiple portable electronic devices such as mobile phones, digital cameras and laptop computers without the need for cable connections.
Electric car users may also eventually be able to charge their vehicles wirelessly using the same technology, said the company, which developed a sample system at Osaka Prefecture University. Claiming to be the world's first of its kind, the technology works on the basis of the transmission of electricity using magnetic fields between the charger and the electronic device.
The system enables wireless charging at distances of up to several meters. With the final aim of installing public “charging spots” on the streets in order to enable easy charging around the clock, scientists at Fujitsu Labs are planning to commercially sell products incorporating the new wireless charging system as early as 2012 but have not yet decided how much they would cost.
“This technology paves the way to integrating compact wireless charging functions into mobile phones and enabling multiple portable devices to be charged simultaneously without any restrictions on their position relating to the charger,” the company said in a statement.
Mobile phone users in Japan can currently charge their batteries using the disposable portable plugin batteryoperated device, available at most train stations and convenience stores. However, phone companies warn long time use of it can damage the phones.
The company added, “We are also looking at applying the results of this work to fields other than portable electronics, including power transmission between circuit boards (电路板) or computer chips, and providing mobile charging systems for electric cars.”

C4[2012·湖南卷]
Still seeking a destination for your weekend break? There are some places which are probably a mere walk away from your college.
King's Art Centre
A day at the Centre could mean a visit to an exhibition of the work of one of the most interesting contemporary artists on show anywhere. This weekend sees the opening of an exhibition of four local artists.
You could attend a class teaching you how to ‘learn from the masters’ or get more creative with paint — free of charge.
The Centre also runs two life drawing classes for which there is a small fee.
The Botanic Garden
The Garden has over 8,000 plant species; it holds the research and teaching collection of living plants for Cambridge University.
The multibranched Torch Aloe here is impressive. The African plant produces red flowers above bluegreen leaves, and is not one to miss.
Get to the display house to see Dionaea muscipula, a plant more commonly known as the Venus Flytrap that feeds on insects and other small animals.
The Garden is also a place for wildlifeenthusiasts. Look for grass snakes in the lake. A snake called ‘Hissing Sid’ is regularly seen lying in the heat of the warm sun.
Byron's Pool
Many stories surround Lord Byron's time as a student of Cambridge University. Arriving in 1805, he wrote a letter complaining that it was a place of “mess and drunkenness”. However, it seems as though Byron did manage to pass the
time
pleasantly enough. I'm not just talking about the pet bear he kept in his rooms. He spent a great deal of time walking in the village.
It is also said that on occasion Byron swam naked by moonlight in the lake, which is now known as Byron’s Pool. A couple of miles past Grantchester in the south Cambridgeshire countryside, the pool is surrounded by beautiful circular paths around the fields. The cries of invisible birds make the trip a lovely experience and on the way home you can drop into the village for afternoon tea. If you don't trust me, then perhaps you'll take it from Virginia Woolf—over a century after Byron, she reportedly took a trip to swim in the same pool.
61. As mentioned in the passage, there is a small charge for ________.
A.attending the masters' class

D.seeing an exhibition
62. “Torch Aloe” and “Venus Flytrap” are ________.
A.common insects
B.impressive plants
C.rarelyseen snakes
D.wildlifeenthusiasts
63. We can infer from the passage that Byron seemed ________.
A.to fear pet bears
B.to like walking
C.to be a heavy drinker
D.to finish university in 1805
64. In the passage Byron's Pool is described as a lake________.
A.surrounded by fields
B.owned by Lord Byron
C.located in Grantchester
D.discovered by Virginia Woolf
65. What is the passage mainly about?
A.Some places for weekend break.
B.A way to become creative in art.
C.The colourful life in the countryside.
D.Unknown stories of Cambridge University.
