In 2006, the Malaysian government released a list of banned names, including Chow Tow - the translation for which is roughly "smelly head".

Even though Denmark has a government-issued list of about 7,000 names, one set of parents sought permission to name their child Anus.

The state of Sonora in Mexico released a list of banned names following a trend of silly applications - many of which were refused for being "derogatory, pejorative, discriminatory or lacking in meaning". Facebook is included on the list.

Lucifer was in a list of 77 banned names released by the department of internal affairs in New Zealand in May 2013.

To be pronounced "Three." The California Court of Appeal in 1984 said this was a symbol, therefore could not be used as a name.

In Italy, judges prevented a couple calling their kid Venerdi aka Friday.They reckoned the name - taken from Robinson Crusoe - would expose the boy to “mockery”.
