Villarreal coach Juan Carlos Garrido has agreed a new contract to extend his time at the club.
The former Villarreal B team coach, who replaced Ernesto Valverde at the head of the first team midway through last season had a contract that expired at the end of June 2011.
The club informs that he has now signed a new contract to keep him at Villarreal until 2014.
It is the reward for Garrido’s excellent work which saw Villarreal rise from the relegation zone, when he took charge a year ago, to finish last season in seventh place and qualify for Europe.
His side has performed even better this campaign and is currently third in the BBVA Primera Liga with an unbeaten home record. Players such as Borja Valero, Nilmar, Rossi and Santi Cazorla are producing fast flowing football and as well as adding to his squad with intelligent signings such as Borja and Spain international Carlos Marchena, Garrido has placed his faith in youth.
Players such as Jefferson Montero, Musacchio and Joan Oriol all worked with Garrido in the B-team and are now producing excellent football for the first team.
Oriol will play at left back for the injured Joan Capdevila this Saturday when Villarreal visits bottom of the table Zaragoza.
A win would allow Villarreal to close the gap of second place in the table as the sides above them: Barcelona and Real Madrid, face each other in Barca’s Camp Nou Stadium.
