The German record champion Bayern Munich was surprisingly hard to earn 3-3 against bottom team Monchengladbach on Saturday Bundesliga.
Hamburg turned around a 0-1 deficit to win 2-1 over Hoffenheim while Freiburg defeated stunner team Mainz 1-0 through a penalty, and Frankfurt swept Wolfsburg 3-1.
Unlike as expected, Monchengladbach opened the scoring against defending champion Bayern only five minutes into the match. A cross attempt from the right by midfielder Patrick Herrmann ended astonishingly in the net of the Bavarians.
Bayern remained unimpressed and levelled the score only six minutes later through striker Mario Gomez who nodded home a dead ball at the far post into top right. With 40 minutes into the match Bayern turned around when midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger slotted the lead with a terrific back heel goal to make it 2-1 on the scoreboards.
The Bavarians had the opportunity to extend the lead to 3-1 but the right post denied Schweinsteiger attempt from the spot. After the break, Monchengladbach pilled on the pressure consequently, they were rewarded at the 56th minute when midfielder Marco Reus slotted home a pass by Igor de Camargo into bottom right to level the score.
Even worse for Bayern, Monchengladbach striker Igor de Camargo gave his team the 3-2 lead only four minutes later.
Bayern pressed frantically for the leveller to avoid the disgrace against bottom team Monchengladbach. It had to come to the 84th minute when Bayern defender Philipp Lahm hammered the equalizer from inside penalty area into top right.
The unexpected draw puts Bayern on 9th position while Monchengladbach remains at the Bundesliga bottom.
Hamburg turned around a 1-0 deficit to win 2-1 over Hoffenheim thanks to the decider by Hamburg striker Mladen Petric. With six minutes into the match Hoffenheim midfielder Sejad Salihovic marked the opener from the penalty spot after a foul by Hamburg midfielder Jonathan Pitroipa. Hamburg needed 39 minutes to recover from the early deficit.
Defender Heiko Westermann netted the ball from close range to make it 1-1 on the scoreboards. With beginning of the second half Hamburg pilled on the pressure so that they ultimately turned the match at the 83rd minute through striker Mladen Petric who nodded home a cross from the left wing for the decider. Hamburg climbed from 8th to 6th position while Hoffenheim slipped from 3rd to 4th position.
Former Bundesliga leader Mainz stumbled over Freiburg in an unspectacular match. A penalty brought the decision for Freiburg at the 64th minute. Striker Papiss Demba Cisse converted the penalty confident into top right to seal the victory for Freiburg, as Mainz was unable to turn around within 90 minutes. Mainz remains on second position meanwhile Freiburg climbed from 10th to 8th position.
Frankfurt defeated Wolfsburg 3-1 in a one sided affair thanks to Bundesliga top striker Theofanis Gekas. Theofanis Gekas' two goals were enough to smooth the way for Frankfurts victory over Wolfsburg.
Gekas opened the scoring at the 26th minute, midfielder Pirmin Schwegler extended the score to 2-0 at the 38th minute. Gekas scored again at the 55th minute by penalty to make it 3-0 on the scoreboards. He netted his 11th goal of the season to remain on top of the Bundesliga top scorers.
Wolfsburg midfielder Ashkan Dejagah could only score the consolation goal at the 66th minute. Wolfsburg remains on 12th position and Frankfurt climbed from 5th to 3rd position.
At the other match on Saturday Nuremberg earned their third consecutive victory when they defeated Cologne 3-1. Nuremberg jumped from 9th to 6th position while Cologne slipped from 15th to 16th position.
On Sunday, Bundesliga leader Dortmund will clash Hannover while Leverkusen hosts Kaiserslautern and Stuttgart meets Bremen.
