体坛英语资讯：Mustafina grabs individual gold

Aliya Mustafina won the women's individual all-around title at the artistic gymnastics World championships on Friday, while Jiang Yuyuan grabbed the first ever silver medal in this event for the Chinese women.

The 16-year-old Mustafina, the gracious Russian starlet, who already impressed in qualifying and in the team event, secured her first individual World title with a total of 61.032 points.

Chinese gymnast Jiang Yuyan captured a silver medal with 59.998 points and Rebecca Bross of the United States (58.996) finished third before the second Chinese Qiushuang Huang. Dutch Home favorite Celine van Gerner ended the competition in 19th place with 55.166.

Mustafina's title was well deserved. She was the best on vault (15.666 ), second on uneven bars (15.300) after Jiang Yuyan, third on beam (15.033) after Ana Porgras from Romania and Jiang Yuyan and second on floor (15.033) behind Rebecca Bross.

"I'm happy with the gold medal," Mustafina said, "My coach told me I could win this gold but I didn't want to put too much pressure on myself and tried to stay as calm as possible."

Mustafina already led Russia to team gold on Wednesday after her team mates Tatiana Nabieva and Anna Dementyeva seemed to have blown their chances by falling from the uneven bars.

She became the second Russian word champion individual all-around since the break-up of the former Soviet Union in 1991. Svetlana Khorkina was the first Russian since 1991 to win the gold. She won in 1997, 2001 and 2003.

Mustafina can get even more gold in all four apparatus finals this weekend in Rotterdam.

Jiang Yuyuan, 19, the Beijing Olympic team champion, achieved to be the first ever Chinese woman to win all-around silver at world championships and becomes just their second medallist after Zhang Nan's bronze in 2003.

"I was nervous today, I'm always very nervous." Jiang said, "I knew I couldn't beat Mustafina, so I just want to calm down and do my best."

"Of course I'm very satisfied with the results, " Chinese women team coach Lu Shanzhen said, "especially because my team didn't perform well in team competition yesterday. I do think a silver is great."
