The South American Soccer Confederation (Conmebol) temporarily barred Chilean player Roberto Cereceda for testing positive for cocaine consumption in an anti-doping control.
Cereceda was informed about this punishment on Tuesday, and he will have 20 days to present his defense, the Colo Colo club said in a statement.
"We notify the temporary suspension of Cereceda from the matches of the Chilean Soccer Federation and the FIFA according to the article 7.2 of the FIFA's law," the statement added.
Cereceda was tested on Aug. 17, after Colo Colo faced Universitario de Sucre club in a match of the South American Cup.
Meanwhile, Cereceda said he did not use cocaine, but he drank a coca leave tea, and that is why the samples tested positive.
The Colo Colo and the Chilean Soccer Confederation have not said how long the suspension will last.
