World number two Roger Federer beat Serb Novak Djokovic to vie for the title against Andy Murray of Britain in the final of the Shanghai Masters on Saturday.
Federer defeated Djokovic 7-5, 6-4 on the later match while Murray staged a dominant performance to oust Juan Monaco from Argentina 6-4, 6-1.
"You know, just needed to focus. Like the next game," said Murray, whose effort of chasing every ball aroused the applause for many times. "I chased a lot of balls down."
"I think each match I feel better. The court, this is a court or a surface for me that is very good."
After winning the match, the 23-year-old Scotch only needs one victory to clinch his second title in this season.
Murray accomplished the first break in the fourth game, hitting a powerful backhander to make a 3-1 lead. Monaco saved two break points in that game, but he lost the third after netting a forehand stroke. The Argentinean got warmed up through the first several games, earning a break point in the seventh game, but Murray saved it to move up to 5-2.
Monaco resolved to win the opening set. The 26-year-old held serve and broke one to catch up until 4-5. However, he lost his confidence after missing an easy shot in the tenth game, making three consecutive unforced errors to lose the set 4-6.
Monaco was unable to fight back in the second set, broken twice to trail by 1-5. In the final service game, Murray powered an ace to finish the match 6-1.
"I mean, I do really enjoy playing Roger. You know, it's obviously a great experience every time you get to play against him," said Murray, who harvested 7 victories out of his 12 previous meetings with the Swiss legend.
It was Federer's eleventh victory over his 23-year-old opponent, and he elevated his ATP rankings to the second place thanks to Saturday's wonderful performance.
After clinching the match, the 16 Grand Slams owner was ready for the 91st final in his career.
"I guess against the best players you have to stay aggressive," he said. "My game anyway is not to let the other guy making mistakes. That's not how I play."
Djokovic, who suffered from the first defeat in China, seemed a little depressed after losing the Shanghai semifinal and the world number two place to his six-year-older opponent.
"I think I've played very well in the first set," said Djokovic. "He played some great shots when he needed to."
Djikovic indeed played a wonderful game. The current world number three got himself four break points in the first set, but he failed to convert any of them.
"I mean, I made some unforced errors. I gave him a chance to attack me, and he did."
Federer was more efficient in breaking, turning one of his two break points to winner and end the first set 7-5.
The Swiss won the second set in a much easier way, gaining an early 2-0 lead by breaking Djokovic's first serve game. Djokovic broke back in the sixth game, but Federer decided to keep the match within two sets. The Swiss served out Djokovic 6-4 and claimed the match.
