Chelsea and Arsenal recorded their second wins from as many matches as last season's runners-up Bayern Munich and Real Madrid also prevailed in the European Champions League on Tuesday.

English champions Chelsea stormed to a 2-0 victory over Olympique Marseille thanks to two goals from John Terry and Nicolas Anelka.

Arsenal defeated 10-man Partizan Belgrade 3-1.

Munich rallied to win 2-1 at Swiss side Basel and the record champions Real Madrid prevailed 1-0 at AJ Auxerre. Spartak Moscow defeated MSK Zilina 3-0 and Shakhtar Donestsk won 3-0 at Sporting Braga.

Former winners Ajax Amsterdam and AC Milan drew 1-1 and Roma edged CFR Cluj 2-1.
