Fourth seed Andy Murray of Britain advanced to the second round at Wimbledon by beating Czech Jan Hajek 7-5, 6-1, 6-2 here on Tuesday.

Murray, who lost to American Andy Roddick in the semifinals last year, is the only realistic hope of a British champion.

The 23-year-old has failed to get past the quarterfinals in eight events since losing to Swiss Roger Federer in the Australian Open final.
