Paraguay hero Antolin Alcaraz had no regrets about joining Wigan despite his stock already rising after his goal against Italy.
The defender, who will join English club Wigan after the World Cup, lifted Paraguay to 1-0 lead over defending champions Italy in the first half of the World Cup Group F opener on Monday.
Although Italy levelled to draw 1-1 through Daniele De Rossi, Alcaraz was voted the Man of the Match.
"It's the most beautiful day of my life," Alcaraz said.
Alcaraz insists he has no regrets about signing with Wigan rather than waiting to put himself in the show case in South Africa.
"I have a good contract with Wigan, I'm glad I'm going to the Premier League," Alcaraz said. "I talked to the coach Roberto Martinez and have a good feeling so I don't doubt my choice now."
