Defending champion Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia was ousted from the women's singles third round at the French Open by compatriot Maria Kirilenko on Friday.

The sixth-seeded Kuznetsova overcame one set down by winning the second set 6-2, but lost to the 30th seed Kirilenko 6-4 in the decider. Kirilenko took the opening set 6-3.

Kuznetsova survived from early exit by edging German Andrea Petkovic 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 on Thursday.
