Atletico Madrid won the inaugural Europa League by beating Fulham 2-1 after extra time in the final at the Hamburg Arena here on Wednesday.
Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan scored the decisive goal in the 116th minute to give the Spanish side its first piece of top-level silverware since it won the domestic league and cup double in 1996.
Forlan had put Atletico ahead in the 32nd minute but Simon Davies equalised five minutes later for Fulham, who was seeking the first major honor in its 131-year history.
