Fluminense star striker Fred will be out of action for two weeks after receiving an appendicitis surgery on Thursday.

Fred complained of sharp pains and ran a high fever just hours before Fluminense's home match against Gremio in the first leg of the Brazilian Cup quarterfinals, which they eventually lost 3-2.

Fluminenses doctor Michael Simoni said on Friday that Fred will need to be inactive for the next two weeks, which means he would be unable to help Fluminense in their return leg against Gremio on May 5 and be forced to sit out of their 2010 Brazilian Championship opener at Ceara on May 9.
