Wimbledon Open tennis tournament offers big bonus for singles winners this year, the All England Club announced on its official website on Tuesday.
This year's Wimbledon champions will each pocket one million pounds (about 1.5 million U.S. dollars) in prize money.
Both the men's and women's champions will take home the biggest purse in the tournament's history, a 17.6% increase of the 150,000 pounds bonus in 2009.
The total prize money for the event, which run from June 21 to July 4, will be 13.725 million pounds, up by 1.175 million pounds on last year, and has doubled over the last 10 years.
It is still just short of the 1.6 million dollars offered by the U.S. Open last year, however.
