Independiente on Monday beats River Plate 3-1 in the eight round of the Argentine Apertura soccer league. Independiente scored the three goals in the first half to end its no-win record of 13 years at "Monumental" stadium against River.

Independiente coached by Americo Gallego scored the three goals at the first half, and it took advantage of River's bad defense.

Dario Gandin opened the scoring for Independiente on 10 minutes before Ignacio Piatti doubled their advantage in the 28the minute and Nestor Silvera sealed the victory on 33 minutes.

Despite changing two players at the beginning of the second half, River failed to improve its performance. Marcelo Gallarado scored on 89 minutes to little consolation for his team.

The audience showed disappointment by jeering at River, which only had one win on 5 points from eight rounds, 12 points behind leaders Velez and Estudiantes.

Independiente has 16 points.
