The defending champions Manchester United took a 3-1 victory inthe same day but in a quite different way.

Blackburn claimed a comfortable 3-1 win over promoted Wolves and Sunderland crushed Hull 4-1.
Wigan edged West Ham 1-0 while Portsmouth still await for a point after being overplayed by Bolton 3-2.
