体坛英语资讯：Gonzalez resigns to Chilean team at Davis Cup

Chilean tennis player Fernando Gonzalez resigned on Thursday to the Chilean team of the Davis Cup through a letter delivered to the Tennis Federation of Chile (FTCh), where he says he will not renew his contract to finish on August. Gonzalez, number 12 of the world, had announced his decision at the beginning of this month, and with this letter he made official his decision.

Gonzalez resigned on Thursday to the national team after hard differences with the directives of the local tennis, because the FTCh made public Gonzalez' contract for the Davis Cup, due to the financial doubts he had.

Gonzalez currently is in France playing the Roland Garros tournament and he said that the only way to return to the Chilean team is if all the directive federation resigns, which has been rejected by the directives.

Last week, 200 tennis players, coaches and former players supported Gonzalez' protests with a public declaration.

Meanwhile, the rest of the team members, Nicolas Massu and Paul Capdeville decided to continue playing in the Cup and will face Austria on September.
