体坛英语资讯：Ronaldo scores first goal in more than a year in 1-1 tie against Palmeiras

In the final minutes of the inter-state rivalry between the Sao Paulo team of Corinthians and Palmeiras, on Sunday the "classic" ended in a 1-1 tie. The game was highlighted by Ronaldo's first goal in his comeback to the sport after more than a year of absence due to injury and recovery from his right knee surgery. It was Ronaldo's second game while wearing the Corinthians jersey.

In the twelfth round of the Sao Paulo state soccer championship, Palmeiras jumped on the board first. In the 3rd minute of the second half, the pride of Palmeiras', Keirrison passed an excellent ball off to Deigo Souza. Souza then took advantage of the fallen Corinthians defense to glide the ball into the net to score Palmeiras' only goal of the game.

Corinthians was able to tie the game in stoppage time of the second half. With their newly returned star to the field, Ronaldo, in action, Corinthians was able to achieve a tie in Sunday's showdown.

Despite the head coach of Palmeiras focus on his defense, Ronaldo was able to score his first goal of his return to soccer after more than a year of absence. Scoring in the last minute of stoppage time of Sunday's game, Ronaldo scored off a header sent from the corner kick of Douglas.

With Sunday's result, Palmeiras continues to lead the 2009 Sao Paulo state tournament. The tie gives Palmeiras 29 points while Corinthians remains in second place with 26 points. Corinthians has now put together a 14 game undefeated streak, wining 12 of the last games in the Sao Paulo state tournament as well as two during the Brazilian Cup.

After Ronaldo scored his game-tying goal, the Military Police were needed to control the scene and avoid accidents among the fans and Corinthians team alike. An enthusiastic Ronaldo romped around the field to show that he has definitively returned to the sport.
