这个“看脸”的世界，化妆是一项必备技能。可说起化妆，如果你能想到的词还只是makeup，那可就不够用了。现在就跟着小编学起来吧。

上妆 Things you do with makeup

put on makeup

化妆的过程就是put on makeup，也可以说do (someone's) makeup。举例:

It takes me about five minutes to do my makeup.

我化个妆大概五分钟。

稍正式一点的动词是apply，比如apply lipstick(涂口红)。

注意：makeup不是动词，是名词。所以不要再说"I makeup" 或 "I makeup my face"了哦。

不过，如果某人的妆特别浓，一眼就能看出来(wearing noticeable makeup)，你就可以说:

She looked all made up.

她的妆看着太假了。

put (someone's) face on

这个短语也是化妆的意思，通常是整张脸都化上妆，但人们并不常用这个表达，就算用，多少会带些戏谑的意味。

修补瑕疵 Quick cosmetic fixes

对于一些人来说，化妆是一种弥补天生不足的解决方法：

They want to fix their imperfections or flaws.

他们想修补自己的不完美之处或各种小瑕疵。

conceal/cover (up)

遮瑕

Makeup helps conceal or cover up those imperfections, like scars or acne.

化妆可以帮助遮瑕，比如遮住疤痕或粉刺。

也许有人天生丽质，没啥可遮盖的，但是架不住日夜操劳，面如菜色，这样的肤色我们叫做“washed out”，即像被洗掉了颜色一样，黯淡无光泽。

在这种情况下，口红(lipstick)和腮红(blush)就是最好的fix啦。它们可以让你的肌肤换发健康自然的光泽(healthy glow)。

均匀肤色

如果肤色不均匀，比如额头比两颊晒得更黑，那么解决办法也很简单:

You might choose a foundation or tinted lotion to even out your skin tone.

你可以选用一款粉底或提亮肤色的润肤露来均匀肤色。

tighten your skin

紧致皮肤

一些抗衰老的护肤品(anti-aging products)，通常以紧致皮肤作为卖点:

They make your skin tighter, less wrinkled, and younger-looking.

它们可以让你的皮肤更加紧致，减少皱纹，焕发青春。

类似的动词还有smooth。

填补

如果你的嘴唇颜色过淡，眉毛太稀，不妨用化妆品给填补一些颜色(fill them in with a bit of color)。

烘托你的美 Bringing out your best

除了修补瑕疵，化妆品还能烘托、凸显美好的五官(emphasize your best features)。Highlight作动词用也可以表达这个意思。举例:

A bright red lipstick will certainly bring out your lips.

鲜亮的唇膏显然能烘托出你的双唇。

make your eyes pop

让眼睛有神

Make your eyes pop可不是让眼珠蹦出来，而是让你的眼睛炯炯有神。比如，使用紫色的眼线(eyeliner)可以使眼睛更加夺目动人(stand out more, and be more noticeable)。

Faking it

人造美

不是每个人都美若天仙，但有了各种化妆神器助攻，什么都是可以造出来哒。

比如fake eyelashes(假睫毛);

比如fake tan(美黑)。例句:

For people with sensitive skin, a fake tan is a nice alternative to getting a sunburn.

对于敏感肤质的人来说，美黑是代替晒黑的不错选择。

注意：Fake这个词并不适用于大多数美容化妆效果，比如，我们不说"fake hair color"，要表达染发，就得说:

He dyes his hair.

他染了发。

She got her hair colored.

她把头发染了。
