剧情简介：

数学教授格雷戈里交过许多女朋友，但结果都不好。他在报上登了寻偶启事，要找一个有共同兴趣和目标的情人。在同一所大学任教的罗斯被姐姐推荐给了格雷戈里，两人开始交往，很快建立了友好关系，这是一种柏拉图式的爱情。他们结婚了，关系仍然单纯，不知是疏忽还是有意回避，罗斯的暗示并未引起格雷戈里的注意。格雷戈里赴欧讲学前，无意中说了一句，她根本不具备外形美丽的女性的魅力。被这话刺痛的罗斯重新整新整容添置新衣，当丈夫回来时，她已有了迷人的新形象……
