首先要认真审题。比如2002年6月份的考题中要谈的是计算机对大学生的影响，而有个考生就写成了对未成年人的影响。这就是没认真审题。时间分配上，前5分钟要做到两点。第一是要审题，第二是要列一个提纲。后20分钟写作。最后5分钟检查。千万不要打草稿，因为时间不够。
我们建议考生在考前准备作文时首先要敢写，而且一定要写，这样才能发现自己的错误。考前要针对不对的体裁写至少10篇文章。目的在于熟悉不同文章的格式和写法。比如应用文中的信该怎么写，观点性的文章要如何过渡。在这个过程中还可以帮助你抓住不同文章中语言的亮点。四级语言的亮点就是给分点。比如用maintain来替换think。More and more是一个很普通的词。我们就可以改用an increasing number of或a growing number of来替换。作文中这些亮点越多，得分点就越多。
句式的变化也是一个得分点。开头要有变化。考生常以I、You，开头。可以试试以动名词、分词开头，以状语开头，以形式主语it开头。变化产生美。个别句子要复杂化。长句短句相结合。考前写文章还在于帮助考生在规定的时间内完成作文。其次是对译法。可以找一些范文，把它翻译成汉语，然后再翻译成英语。然后比较原文。找出时态、用词等的错误。建议过几天再对照一下，因为自己往往当时很难发现出自己的错误。
