　　英语中很多词可以同时具有两个或两个以上的词性，各词性之间的意思有的有些关联也有的毫无关联。例如cement作名词用是水泥的意思，而在Its difficult to cement a good working relationship between employers and employees.这个句子中，cement作动词用是连接，巩固的意思。再如，content这个词有三个词性，分别是名词，形容词和动词，作不同词性时意思也不尽相同。所以在复习单词时要注意单词词性的变化及其相应的词义。

　　⑶living主要指在某个时候是活着的，而alive指本来有死的可能，但仍活着的。而且，作主语补足语或宾语补足语时，只能用alive;作比喻义(如活像...、活生生的等)解时，要用living。

　　The enemy officer was caught alive.(作主语补足语，不用living)

　　那位敌方军官被活捉了。

　　We found the snake alive.(作宾语补足语，不用living)

　　He is the living image of his father.(比喻义，不用alive)

　　⑷只有living前加the方可表示活着的人，作主语时，视作复数。
