　　1. motivate v. 激励;促进;激发

　　名词形式motivation。

　　A desire to pass Band 6 motivates her to work hard.

　　通过六级的欲望刺激着她努力学习。

　　2. multiply v. 繁殖

　　multiply 除了表示繁殖，也可表示做乘法，如multiply A by B，或者multiply A and B

　　,表示A 和B 相乘。而做除法则为divide，加为plus 或add，减法为subtract

　　或minus。

　　与这个词拼写差不多的词是multiple，multiple 既可作形容词，也可作名词。作形容词时

　　表示多项的，多类型的;作名词时表示倍数，而multiple store 则指连锁商店。

　　Fish multiply rapidly.

　　鱼繁殖很快。

　　3. maintenance n. 保养

　　maintenance 是动词maintain 的名词形式。它表示维持、保持，也可表示赡养费、抚养

　　费。

　　price maintenance 保持价格不变 maintenance man 维修工人

　　It is important to have some skin maintenance at certain ages.

　　到了特定年纪，一些皮肤保养是很有必要的。

　　4. massive a. 大量的; 大而重的

　　a massive increase 大规模增长 a massive crowd 大批群众

　　The 911 tenth annversary has been a subject of massive media coverage.

　　5. mask v. 掩饰;面具;

　　gas mask 防毒面具

　　Her smile masked her true feeling.

　　6. overall a. 总体的

　　an overall impression 总体印象

　　Overall, the picture is well conceived except for the light.

　　总体来说，除了光线问题，整张图片构思不错。

　　7. perceive v. 感知;注意到;观察到

　　perceive sth. as sth. 理解或领悟某事物;认为

　　I perceived that his emotion is instable these days.

　　我注意到她这几天情绪不太稳定。

　　8. prevail over v . 胜过;盛行;流行;普遍存在

　　prevail among /in sb. /sth. 普遍存在;十分流行

　　prevail against /over sb. /sth. 战胜/击败某人或某物

　　Tennis prevails in this country.

　　这个国家十分盛行网球运动。

　　9. prime n. 壮年;全盛时期

　　prime 还可表示首要的;典型的 prime minister 首相

　　He died in the prime of his life.

　　他在壮年时便去世了。

　　10. priority n. 优先权

　　give priority to 给优先权 top priority 最应优先考虑的事

　　As the reform goes on, the government gives priority to economy development.

　　随着改革的深入，政府将经济发展作为第一要务。
