英语四级考试词汇解析

　　随着教育部宣布四级考试改革的消息，很多考生也感到更难了。所谓的改革又真的使我们束手无策了吗？让我们共同感受一下2004年6月19日四级考试的词汇部分（以下称为最新题），为挣扎于考试中的同学们指点迷津。

　　一、词组：只是不起眼的小兵

　　上次考试出现4道词组题，31题的on the contrary，36题的when it comes to和43题的put away these fur coats的考点实为历年真题当中的老生常谈，不厌其烦地强调做熟真题，原因就在于此。另外44题考点为in harmony，与其说是在考词组，不如说是考查单词harmony的含义。

　　二、单词：你是我眼中唯一将领

　　在该次考试中，42题看似考介词，实际是在考查动词congratulate的用法搭配，如果不知道congratulate sb. on sth.的用法是无法得分的，这主要取决于平时的积累，企图依靠考前突击漫天撒网地复习上千个如此细节的知识点注定广种薄收。

　　纵观03年6月以来的每次四级考试，都有为数不少的同学在折戟沉沙之余抱怨单词偏难，抱怨考查范围太广以致复习无从下手，抱怨历年词汇真题太少以致考点覆盖不全。

　　试举几例：最新题中的40题

　　For more than 20 years， weve been supporting educational programs that _____ from kindergartens to colleges.

　　A） spread C） move B） shift D） range

　　和99年6月44题 The price of beer ＿＿＿ from 50 cents to $4 per liter during the summer season.

　　A） altered C） separated B） ranged D） differed

　　岂非有异曲同工之妙？

　　47题 It _____ you to at least 50% off the regular price of either frames or lenses when you buy both.

　　A） credits C） presentsB） entitles D） tips

　　和03年6月51题 This ticket _____ you to a free boat tour on the lake.

　　A） entitles C） grants B） appoints D） credits

　　又岂非如出一辙？

　　实际上entitle乃是四级考试重要考点，在95年12月22题、01年6月37题和02年12月39题都曾作为正确答案出现。熟做真题的同学看到它几乎会有一种条件反射般的冲动。

　　再看一例，如果做过了00年6月25题 Most broadcasts maintain that TV has been unfairly criticized and argue that the power of the medium is _____.

　　A） granted C） exaggeratedB） implied D） remedied

　　又看到新题Mr. Smith says： The media are very good at sensing a mood and then ____ it.

　　A） exaggerating C） widening B） overtaking D） enlarging

　　又怎会不觉似曾相识？连语境medium（media）都是一样的！

　　另外，正如笔者在03年年底《把握四六级词汇考查之趋势》一文中指出的一样，解词汇题还应注意语义逻辑关系的分析。如最新题31题 This is not an economical way to get more water ； ____， it is very expensive.

　　A） or else C） on the contrary B） in short D） on the other hand

　　看到分号前面的分句说不是经济的方式，而后面的分句说很昂贵，中间当然要以表相反的连接词相连，四个选项中只有C（恰恰相反）符合题意。

　　再如41题 I was so _____ in todays history lesson. I didnt understand a thing.

　　A） confused C） amused B） neglected D） amazed

　　从后面一句什么都不懂可以判断前面当然要表达困惑的意思了，显然，只有答案A满足题意。

　　语义逻辑关系的分析推断不仅对于解词汇题，对于解阅读题也是大有裨益的，在六级考试中这种分析方法会更加凸显其重要性――这是后话，且按下不表。
