M: What about the committee meeting?
W: Dont worry. Ill be back at the office before then.
(Text 2)
M: How long have you had this problem with your shoulder?
W: It started last week after my skiing accident.
M: Lets try some tests to determine the nature of the injury.
(Text 3)
W: Are you having a good time?
M: Sure. Thanks again for inviting me.
W: No problem. I just wish more people could have come.
(Text 4)
M: We finally made it, Mary!
W: I cant believe graduation is tonight.
M: Can you come to my graduation party?
W: Sure, after I finish the family celebration.
M: I want to be sure we get pictures of us together.
W: In our caps and gowns!
(Text 5)
M: Hi, did you pass your geography exam?
W: Yeah, I did quite well. In fact, I got 76%.
M: Oh, well done! So they gave you a percent? I thought they gave grades.
W: Yeah, they gave both. Mine was an A. So how about you?
M: Well, we dont have exams. We have continuous assessment, so you just have to do coursework, and you get a mark for each essay.
(Text 6)
M: Have you got everything? Lets check. Passports, tickets, money. Yes, theyre all right.
W: Have you brought down all the suitcases? One, two, three, four, yes, thats right.
M: Why do we need so many things? Were only going for two weeks.
W: Well, we need things for warm weather, things for cold weather, things for bad weather.
M: Where on earth can the taxi be? Its twenty to eleven. Im going to telephone the taxi people again. Hello, this is David Smith. I asked for a taxi an hour ago. When will it arrive at French Street? What? Eleven. No, we only have 40 minutes left.
W: Thats too late.

W: I know, lets ask Jim Campbell. Look, theres light in his window. Hes still watching TV.
M: Thats a good idea.
(Text 7)
M: Please tell us what is like to go to school in Australia, Sue.
W: Ill be glad to. I go to Bellview High School in North Sydney. Ive just finished my year 11 exams and Ive come to China for a short holiday. W: Ive been in Beijing now for four days, and yesterday I went to the Great Wall. I also saw the Ming Temples. Tomorrow Im going to see the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heavens.

W: John, do you realize that Christmas is only a month away? Weve got to think about Christmas gifts.
M: Yes, and what a lot of relatives we have to think about!
W: Shall we decide what to send them all over?
M: All right. Lets make a list of names and then decide what to give them all.
W: The children first, I think. What about Anne?
M: Shes getting too grown-up for toys. We can let her choose a book.
W: Very well. Now what about Dick? He thinks about nothing but space travel nowadays.
M: Oh, that makes it easy. Shall we give him one of those space travel suits the toyshop has? You know what I mean: there is a big round plastic thing that goes over the head.
W: Thats an excellent idea. Hell he quite excited.
M: What about your father?
W: Hes fond of music. Perhaps some records?
(Text 9)
M: Excuse me, will you tell me where I can find the library?
W: Yes. Is it in the No. 15 Building?
M: Im afraid youll have to tell me where that is too. Im new to the university.
W: Do you mind telling me where you are from?
M: Certainly not. Im from the USA. My home is in New York.
W: Well, do you see that red brick building just past this building on your left?
M: Yes.
W: Well, thats the Student Union Building. The library is just behind it. You had better read the instructions first so that you can borrow the books you like as quickly as possible. As you go in the main entrance, youll see the instructions.
M: Thank you very much. Youve been very helpful.
W: Im glad to have found another student from America. Good luck to you!
