Beijing's planning authority is set to include 70 percent of the city into a ecological protection red line, as highlighted in a future construction plan currently under revision.
北京市规划委计划将北京70%的市域面积列入“生态保护红线区，作为正在修改的北京市总体规划的一大亮点。
北京市规划委员会副主任王飞近日接受记者集体采访时透露，最新规划将聚焦生态保护(eco-conservation)，遏制城市扩张(curbing city expansion)以应对拥堵、污染等特大城市的老大难问题(mega-city headaches)。
新规划还将划定城市增长刚性边界(rigid lines)，严格禁建与生态保护无关的建设活动(new projects irrelevant to eco-protection)，加强生态保育；16%的面积作为集中建设区，重点提高公共服务(public service)、交通市政基础设施建设(transportation projects)等；其余面积则为限制建设区(labeled as limited construction areas)，主要包括城乡结合部(outskirts)、远郊农村(rural areas)等地区，将推进城乡一体(rural-urban integration)，升级产业。
此外，北京正在完善建设绿化隔离带(green belts)，计划在四环路以内(within the 4th ring road)和六环路内完善建设2条绿化隔离带。在北京周边跨界地区(cross-border regions)，京津冀三地正联合建设环首都国家公园(national park)，以完善京津冀整体生态空间格局。
