TEHRAN, Oct. 14 -- Iran lost to the United Arab Emirates in the final of the 4th West Asian Women's Football Championship, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported on Friday.
Iran drew 2-2 with the UAE in normal time but lost to the hosts 6-5 during the penalty shootout at Abu Dhabi' s Sultan bin Zayed Stadium on Wednesday, said the report.
Iran defeated Jordan 3-2 in semi-final and had already defeated the UAE 4-1, Lebanon 8-1 and Syria 4-1 in Group B of the competitions.
According to the report, Iran' s Maryam Rahimi was selected as the competition' s top scorer with eight goals.
In the bronze medal match Bahrain beat Jordan 4-3.
