QUITO, June 5 -- Peruvian Constantino Leon on Sunday won the 51st Quito-Ultimas Noticias 15 kilometers race, the most important of Ecuador, where 15,000 athletes from different countries participated.
Leon, 36 years old, won for the first time the race with a time of 46 minutes and 19 seconds.
Last year, Leon arrived in fourth place, but this time he surpassed Ecuadorian Segundo Jami in the last kilometer of the race.
Leon took advantage over Jami for at least 15 meters in the kilometer 14, as he increased the rhythm of his running.
The second place was for Jami with a time of 46 minutes and 40 seconds, while the third place was for Kenyan Issac Kimayo.
In the women's category, Ecuadorian Diana Landi won the race for the second consecutive year.
