BEIJING, June 1 -- China stands ready to work with Africa to firmly oppose all forms of racial discrimination and remarks inciting racial discrimination and hatred, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Monday.
Spokesperson Zhao Lijian made the remarks when asked to comment on an African American who died in police custody after white police officers in the United States placed their knee on his neck during arrest.
China expresses its solidarity with and support for Africa's call for justice as African countries and people suffered great misfortune on racial discrimination, Zhao said at a news briefing.
Zhao said leaders of the African Union and African countries have given just calls against racial discrimination in the United States, which represents the general consensus of the international community.
"We hope that the United States can face up to and listen carefully," the spokesperson added.
