国内英语资讯:China consolidates sweeping victory against corruption in 2019

BEIJING, Dec. 30 -- China has consolidated its sweeping victory against corruption in 2019, according to statistics made public Monday by the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission.

From January to November, disciplinary inspection and supervisory organs across the country filed and investigated 555,000 cases, with 485,000 people receiving disciplinary measures within the Party or government agencies, while 19,000 were transferred to procuratorates for criminal investigation.

Around 70,800 and 86,400 cases involving corruption and misconduct related to poverty relief and people's wellbeing respectively were handled in the period, with 99,000 and 110,000 people punished, the statistics showed.

The campaign against gangs and organized crime has also made headway, handling 47,200 cases of gang-related corruption and "protective umbrellas" that shelter crimes since its launch in January 2018.

Moreover, a total of 1,841 fugitives were repatriated to China from abroad from January to November this year, including 816 Party members and state functionaries, and over 4.09 billion yuan (around 585.58 million U.S. dollars) of illicit money was recovered.
