BEIJING, Dec. 22 -- Wang Chen, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, called for improving works of the people's congresses and the competence of deputies to the people's congresses.
Wang, also vice chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, made the remarks Sunday at a working conference in Beijing.
Wang highlighted the importance of ensuring the Party's leadership over works of the people's congresses, and called for further strengthening close ties with deputies to the people's congresses and supporting and ensuring deputies to the people's congress to fully play their roles in accordance with the law.
He also called for respecting their principal status and advancing the contacting mechanism of deputies.
Deputies to the people's congresses at all levels should firm up their political stance, value their duties as deputies, and better play their role as bridges linking the Party and the country with the people, Wang said.
