BEIJING, Dec. 4 -- China's top legislator Li Zhanshu met with El Salvador's President Nayib Armando Bukele Ortez here on Wednesday, and the two sides pledged to promote the development of ties between the two countries.
Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, said that although the bilateral relationship between China and El Salvador has just recently started to develop, it is on the correct path of adhering to the one-China principle and upholding mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit and common development.
China and El Salvador established diplomatic ties last August.
Bukele said his country will adhere to the one-China principle. He expressed hope that the legislative bodies of the two countries would strengthen exchanges.
