BEIJING, Nov. 22 -- Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Friday underlined the implementation of production safety responsibilities and urged more efforts to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
Governments of all levels should improve and enhance safety production work to prevent major and extraordinarily serious accidents, Li said in an instruction to a national teleconference on production safety.
He called for earnest efforts in carrying out a nationwide safety inspection on hazardous chemical substances to eliminate hidden safety risks and urged emergency prevention and preparedness to safeguard the safety of people's lives and property.
Vice Premier Liu He, also head of the Work Safety Committee of the State Council, and State Councilor Wang Yong, vice head of the committee, attended Friday's meeting.
China has seen continuous decreases in the total number of accidents and serious accidents this year with improving safety measures in most sectors and industries, according to the meeting.
The meeting called for efforts to step up hazardous wastes supervision and management and reinforce safety regulations in key industries including coal mining, fire fighting, transport, construction, gas, as well as fireworks and crackers.
