中国已到“工业反哺农业”阶段

习近平在主持政治局集体学习时强调，中国到了工业反哺农业、城市支持农村的发展阶段。

On April 30, top leader Xi Jinping presided over a session of the Communist Party of China Central Committee's Political Bureau on improving the mechanisms and institutions for the integrated development of urban and rural areas. During the session, Xi said to meet the needs of China's future development, the country should regard industry nurturing agriculture and cities supporting countryside as long-term guiding principles.

国家主席习近平主持了中共中央政治局4月30日就健全城乡发展一体化体制机制进行的集体学习。会议中习近平强调，为了满足中国未来发展需要，需要将工业反哺农业、城市支持农村视作长期指导原则。

“工业反哺农业”可以用industry nurturing agriculture表示，反哺是一个仿生概念，这里借用反哺概念，是为了表明在长期接受农业哺育后，工业已“长成”，应该回报农业。这里的nurture是“养育、培育、支持”的意思。

会议中，习近平强调中国要在协调城乡发展上取得重大突破（make breakthroughs on coordinated development between urban and rural areas），让广大农民平等参与改革发展进程（participate in the country's development on an equal footing）、共享经济增长的成果（share the fruits of economic growth），形成城乡一体化发展（integrated urban-rural development）新格局。

为了建成小康社会（a moderately prosperous society），最困难的任务在于发展农村地区，习近平要求推进农业现代化（advance agricultural modernization），保障农民食品安全，提高农民收入。
