BEIJING, Aug. 30 -- Senior Chinese political advisors on Wednesday concluded a meeting on targeted poverty relief.
They discussed the issue at the 22nd meeting of the Standing Committee of the 12th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, which opened on Monday morning and was attended by Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee.
Wang Yang, Chinese vice premier also attended the meeting, the opening session of which was presided over by Du Qinglin, vice chairman of the CPPCC.
The advisors agreed that poverty relief is a major task that adheres to the purpose of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and embodies the essential features of socialism.
Those who are rich should help the poorer to reach the goal of common prosperity, while seeking truth from facts remains the key to alleviate poverty, they said.
As the fundamental method of poverty relief work, the mass line must be maintained and people from all walks of life should be encouraged to take part in the work.
Moreover, abject poverty should stay as the focus of poverty alleviation, and industrial methods should play a bigger part. Overall coordination should be continued to make better use of funds, according to the advisors.
The meeting mapped out the CPPCC's tasks in the second half of 2017, which require political advisors to fulfill their duties of the year and greet the opening of the 19th National Congress of the CPC with good spirits and great achievements.
The meeting also saw some removals from the CPPCC, while a lecture on China's space projects was held on Wednesday.
