3.witness (v.) 目击，证明

7. ascertain (vt.) 确定，查明

Eg：The police have so far been unable to ascertain the cause of the explosion. 警方到目前为止尚未查明爆炸原因。

8. verify (vt.) 核实，查证

Eg：I looked up the word in a dictionary to verify its spelling. 为了查证这个词的拼写方法，我从词典中查了一下这个词。
