PARIS, Nov. 21 -- French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday called on Iran and Israel to join efforts to preserve stability in Lebanon and ease tension in the region, his office said.
Macron held phone talks with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a bid to find common ground to de-escalate political turmoil in Lebanon.
He told the two key players in the Middle East peace process about "the importance for the countries of the region to work collectively to ease tensions", according to a statement from the Elysee.
"(Macron) recalled the need to preserve the stability and sovereignty of Lebanon and to support the Lebanese policy of dissociation of regional conflicts," said the statement.
During the phone call, the French president also reiterated Paris commitment to implement Iran's nuclear accord and preserve it, suggesting to discuss "separately and with constructive dynamic" regional issue and Iran's ballistic activities, according to the statement.
